Gender reveals are individual to each family - whether you'd prefer a sweet and intimate moment between the two of you, or a huge event for all your friends and family to enjoy. However, while they might be carefully carefully planned down to the smallest detail - they don't always turn out the way you'd hoped.

One popular way of doing a gender reveal is getting a cake made, and the icing inside will give away what the gender of the baby is - blue icing for a boy, pink for a girl. It can be incredibly exciting, as you slice into the cake and carefully remove a piece to reveal the colour inside.

One couple were hoping to have a moment just like this - but a simple error meant their intimate gender reveal was ruined last minute. As opposed to some gender reveal fails, it wasn't the baker's fault, but instead because of how they had stored it at home.

Steph, a mum-to-be from Toronto, Canada, uploaded the mishap to TikTok account @yagirlstephs, leaving other parents in stitches. When she sliced into the cake, she found it was so hard from being in the fridge for three days that it didn't budge. Instead, the cold, hard icing covering the dessert just fell off. She captioned the video: "When you left the cake in the fridge for TOO LONG. I panicked so hard".

Many amused social media users took to the comment section, with one person joking: "Looks like a cake, feels like a brick" and another adding: "Ya'll didn't let it thaw or nothing". A third added: "Definitely try letting it sit out first for a bit!! Being in the fridge keeps it fresh but it does make the icing hard especially when/if done good!" Steph replied saying: "I wish I knew that before I took one bite and threw it out. #fail".

Thinking this meant the cake had gone bad, Steph threw the cake out. She revealed: "I thought it went bad. I didn't know I had to thaw it." After getting a new cake, Steph filmed a new gender reveal video where the slice could be gently removed - revealing the pink icing inside.
