Supercomputer predicts Premier League season including top four and relegation

A supercomputer has predicted that Manchester City will retain the Premier League title, ahead of big spending Arsenal and Manchester United.

City won the top-flight for the fifth time in six years last season, overhauling the Gunners in the final week of the season. That set them up to win the treble, the first English team to do so since Manchester United achieved the feat in 1999.

Though Pep Guardiola has lost Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan in this summer's transfer window, they remain well set to again challenge for the title. And now a new supercomputer has backed Guardiola's men to once again be crowned as champions.

The prediction, from King Casino Bonus, places City at the top of the table when the season ends next May. The supercomputer has tipped Arsenal to again just miss out on top spot, having finished as runners-up last season.

The Gunners have spent heavily this summer in a bid to finally end their two-decade wait for a Premier League title. But boss Mikel Arteta is predicted to again be left disappointed when the campaign comes to an end.

Having finished fifth after a wretched campaign last year, Liverpool are predicted to return to the top four, claiming third place according to the supercomputer. Jurgen Klopp has overseen a radical overhaul of his squad, one that is set to pay off.

Though United have spent nearly £180million this summer, Erik ten Hag's side are set for a somewhat disappointing campaign. Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have all arrived at Old Trafford in recent months,

But having finished third last term, the supercomputer predicts that he Red Devils will drop to fourth. Meanwhile, it should be a better season for Chelsea, with new boss Mauricio Pochettino tipped to lead them to fifth, which could bring qualification for the Champions League.

Having secured a return to the Champions League last year, Newcaste could find themselves dropping to fifth according to the supercomputer. Meanwhile Tottenham are again set to miss out on the top four, with Harry Kane likely to leave for Bayern Munich.

Brighton and Aston Villa are tipped to be the best of the rest, ahead of the likes of West Ham, Brentford and Crystal Palace. At the other end of the table, Luton Town are predicted to finish bottom in their first season in the top-flight since 1991/1992.

The Hatters are tipped to be joined in the relegation zone by fellow promoted side Sheffield United, who have embarked on a fire sale of their best players. And the supercomputer believes that the final side in the drop zone will be Wolves amid their summer turmoil.

That means that Championship winners Burnley will be safe from the drop, having stormed to promotion last term. Bournemouth are predicted to escape the drop by the skin of their teeth in their first season under Andoni Iraola, while Nottingham Forest would also secure safety.
