An antique collector has been caught selling a "definitely not haunted doll" on Facebook Marketplace at a 'discounted' price. The Jester Harlequin Doll is said to be from the 1980s and still has its original lace collar and balloon.

While it naturally sits in a "seated position", it is said to be capable of moving its arms, lifting its head, and playing music. Its advert reads: "This doll is definitely not haunted. It is vintage 1980s, in the style of Madame Verte but I don't see any tags or brand name on it. Includes balloon and lace collar.

"It is in a seated position. Plays music and arms move, only when you wind up the little crank in the back, not just on its own out of the blue in the night. Please let me know if you need any additional information or pictures." Advertised as "used - good" condition, the doll is on sale for $30 (£23) with no returns available from its seller in the New York area.

The seller, named Sarah, has around 10 other antique dolls available as well as other collectables such as an old radio, light fittings, and paintings. However, she isn't the only one selling antique dolls online, as another user in Torrington, Connecticut, has been upfront about their listing, advertising it as a "haunted baby doll".

Up for $13.50 (£11) with USPS Priority Mail, its advert reads: "Very strong energy in this one. As a psychic it makes my eyes vibrate just looking at it. Black orbs at times have been seen around it. Message me for more info!"

It comes after a woman got the fright of her life after coming across a "cursed doll" when bargain hunting at an estate sale. She explained how she ventured down to the basement to see whether there were any hidden treasures down there - but came running back up the stairs shortly after.

The bargain hunter came across a long black box tied shut with string - and against her better judgement, she decided to open it. That's when she came face-to-face with a "cursed doll" with a pale complexion, shocked expression, and wearing a white shirt and a patterned purple skirt.

She said on Reddit: "Found in a basement at an estate sale. It was in a black box tied shut and someone (maybe the person who made it) carved their name on the back of its neck. "I did not buy it - I prefer to stay not cursed. It costs $10.50 (£8.57) but she eats your soul for free." While most users questioned why anybody would spend $10.50 on the doll, others urged the woman to leave the house and never go back.

One user said: "That thing probably comes to life around midnight or so." Another added: "Officially agreeing with all of the 'kill it with fire' comments. Salt it before you burn it. Just to err on the side of caution." A third agreed: "Do you want a haunting? Because that's how you get a haunting!"
