A woman who was in a critical condition after being struck by a car in Malvern has died of her injuries.

Shortly after noon on Tuesday a red Fiat 500 collided with six pedestrians on the pavement, police have confirmed. At the time officers said: "It does not appear that it was deliberate". Two other people with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening, remain in hospital, while three more people who suffered minor injuries in the incident, did not need hospitalisation.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and is helping with enquiries into the cause of the collision, West Mercia Police has confirmed. Images from the scene show a red car close to where belongings are scattered on the path, with a police officer close by. Police have confirmed no arrests have been made at this time.

Sergeant Liam Bennet, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of the lady who has died.

“We’re working hard to understand what happened and how the car came to mount the pavement and strike the pedestrians. While our investigation continues I would ask people to avoid speculating about what happened.”

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the collision or may have dash-cam footage from the time to contact police.

Yesterday a post from West Mercia Police on the social media network formerly known as Twitter read: "We were called shortly after midday when a red Fiat 500 car struck six pedestrians. "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed or have dash-cam footage of the collision or the red Fiat 500 in the moments before the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Liam Bennett on [email protected] quoting incident number 189i of 8 August."
