Conor McGregor has claimed that he "carried" boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in their 2017 fight, despite losing the bout by a decisive finish within ten rounds.

The two-weight UFC champion made the switch to boxing for their Las Vegas showdown and won the early exchanges before tiring and allowing Mayweather to take control as the bout progressed. Eventually, the boxer, as expected, got the stoppage victory in round ten before retiring from the sport at 50-0.

But McGregor has now insisted that he "carried" Mayweather and reiterated his calls for a rematch, which has been discussed by both ever since the monstrous money they earned the first time around. Since that bout, the Irishman has struggled for consistency while his rival has continued boxing in unsanctioned exhibition bouts with celebrities, MMA fighters and other random opponents.

"Don't forget, I played ping pong with Floyd's head," McGregor tweeted and deleted on Monday along with a sparring video. "I carried him! In the rematch, I am going to use this style of attack but alongside a more destructive set of shots on top also. Before, it was just ping pong, this time it was ping pong and babe Ruth with a baseball bat. KO incoming."

He then responded twice to a fan who commented on the footage, which showed him landing a clean multi-punch combination without missing, adding: "100 per cent accuracy. McGregor's bread and butter. How many of your favourites have 100 per cent accuracy in their fights? I have a load of them.

"Brain too fast, vision too sharp. I call it making contact with the ball. To develop it, practice keeping a tennis ball in the air with your punches. Sync this work with power work and destroy everything with ease. This game is very much alive and I fancy the pants off it! 100 per cent Acc! Sir Cap'aLot."

McGregor also shared one of his patented voice notes, in which he teased Mayweather - goading the boxer into a rematch with a creepy message. "Floyd," he chanted. "Oh Floyd, here Floydy, Floydy."

Mayweather is currently in talks for his next exhibition, which will be his first rematch on the retirement tour as he looks to settle the controversial finish to his fight with John Gotti III in June. The pair's bout descended into an arena-wide brawl after the New Yorker, whose grandfather is mob boss John Gotti, was disqualified after being taunted throughout by the boxer.

Meanwhile, McGregor is in training for his return to the octagon at the end of this year, likely against Michael Chandler. However, he has pivoted in recent days towards a BMF title fight with long-time rival Justin Gaethje, who has implored him to sign up for a bout years in the making for his first fight since breaking his leg in July of 2021.
