Your WhatsApp pals will soon be able to see everything that's on your smartphone or laptop screen but it's not as scary as it sounds.

The major 'Screen Share' update is aimed at letting users show friends snippets from websites they are browsing, documents they are working on or how to access features on a device. It's basically a functionality that many video apps such as Zoom and Google Meet already offer.

Explaining more, WhatsApp said in a post on its blog: "Whether sharing documents for work, browsing photos with family, planning a vacation or shopping online with friends, or just helping grandparents with tech support – screen sharing lets you share a live view of your screen during the call."

As soon as the update is pushed out in the coming weeks, users will see a ‘Share’ icon in the app. Once pressed, they will then get the option to share a specific application or their entire screen.

It sounds pretty useful, just make sure you've hidden anything you don't want others to see before tapping that Share option or things could get a little embarrassing.

News of this update comes as WhatsApp has also recently rolled out a new Instant Video Message option./

This lets you record 60-second movies which can then be shared right from the app - a bit like the popular voice record feature.

"Voice messages on WhatsApp changed the way people communicate by providing a quick and secure way to share your voice. We’re excited to build on this feature with new instant video messages. Now you can record and share short personal videos directly in the chat," WhatsApp explained.

All of these upgrades should be available on iPhone and Android soon.
