Jonnie Irwin revealed he suffered an injury on Monday after taking a tumble - after forgetting some builders had removed a step from his home.

The 49-year-old A Place In The Sun presenter was left to nurse himself after suffering the injury. And taking to social media at the start of the week, the star explained that he had injured his foot.

He uploaded a snap of his lower leg and foot - which looked like it was swelling and turning red. The TV host had covered his ankle with a chilled kool pak - but didn’t sound too devastated by his injury. He shared the snap online and added the caption: “When you forget the builder has removed your doorstep…”

His post was met with a wall of sympathy from social media followers who conceded a bashed up limb would be the last thing the TV star would need. One fan responded to Jonnie’s post to remark: “Oh no! Hope you’re OK. Plenty of R.I.C.E. Rest, ice, compression & elevation. Take it easy.” While another sympathetic Instagram follower wrote: “Lots of ice Jonnie…. You don’t need this that’s for sure!”

At the beginning of the week, Jonnie left fans devastated as he shared a heartbreaking update as he explained he was taking his young son to nursery for the last time amid his terminal cancer battle. He shared a collection of photographs of himself with his young son.

He wrote alongside the images: “Last EVER ride to nursery with Rex. Suitably waved off by Rafa and his spade and Rex with his game face on!” The touching moment was again inundated with words of encouragement from fans and social media followers.

One wrote: “Johnnie those boys will learn so much about your strength & tenacity, memories to last them their lifetime. You're truely inspirational and what a Daddy you have shown them to be.” And another remarked: “your a credit and an inspiration.”

Jonnie revealed he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in November last year, admitting he didn’t know how long he would have to live. He explained: “I had to go home and tell my wife, who was looking after our babies, that she was on her own pretty much. That was devastating. All I could do was apologise to her. I felt so responsible.”

The TV stars shares three-year-old son Rex and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac with his wife, Jessica Holmes. The couple have been married since 2016.
