Shoppers have reacted with horror at spotting Christmas foods, chocolates and drinks in supermarkets across the country, with several weeks of summer still to go.

With several weeks of the school holidays to go people have seen festive treats including mulled wine and sweets already on shelves in shops including Marks and Spencers and Tesco. The sight has angered many with several sharing their disbelief on social media.

One wrote: “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Tesco.”

Another added: "In Tesco either earlier and spotted these. You know what that means? “The countdown to christmas is on!”

Another joked: “Never mind the whole #BackToSchool shenanigans appearing everywhere…the first signs of Christmas has been spotted in Tesco, Exeter!”

The Tesco customers couldn't help but vent their frustrations after spotting huge displays of chocolate tubs, including Celebrations and Quality Street - on sale in 600g tubs for £4 for Clubcard members - while Cadbury Heroes and Roses are the same price for 550g.

The supermarket has also unveiled its Christmas Product Showcase, meaning party food, decorations and clothing along with other yuletide treats are expected to hit stores in the coming weeks, the Daily Record reported.

Some shoppers can't agree on whether or not it is a good thing. While a lot of people are overjoyed to be able to buy the chocolates early, others have said that it is "too soon" to have them on display.

Another person said on social media: “Supermarkets need to stop this. I’m all for prepping early but the magic of Christmas has been destroyed by multinationals.

"Everything out far too early- all about cashing in and nothing else."

Tesco hasn't been the only supermarket already preparing for Christmas, as one shopper had spotted themed shortbread already on the shelves in M&S, and Halloween pumpkin decorations have also been spotted by a woman in her local Hobbycraft.

Despite seemingly annoying the majority of shoppers, one mum takes full advantage of the early festive treats.

Tahnee Beck starts her bargain hunt during sales - and completes 3/4 of her shopping before August.

While some prefer to wait until the festive season begins, it's well worth getting an early start, according to the mum-of-two, who says she's saved up to £5,0000 in the seven years she's adopted the approach.

Tahnee, 33, from Norfolk, explained: "I just can't bear to part with the money and then see everything reduced.
