Kane's gesture to Tottenham fans speaks volumes amid Bayern Munich uncertainty

Harry Kane undertook a lap of appreciation on his own after Tottenham smashed Shakhtar Donetsk in their final friendly of the summer.

The striker has entered the final year of his contract at the Premier League side, with heavy doubts around his future. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are desperate to sign him, seeing two bids rejected by Tottenham already this summer.

Spurs have been resistant to selling their star man and he started their final friendly of the summer as Donetsk came to visit. The game raised money for Ukraine, which remains at war with Russia after last year's invasion.

Kane scored four goals in his side's 5-1 win and curiously after the game took to the pitch again on his own. He had earlier been subbed off, but returned wearing a training top to wave and applaud the home crowd.

While it is not an unusual sight for Kane to thank the home supporters after the final whistle, his latest gesture comes with his future increasingly uncertain. The England captain is thought to have demanded a deal be agreed before the start of the season, or he will stay at Spurs.

Though he has insisted he will not be signing a new deal, he is ready to see out his contract with Tottenham. Kane is keen to avoid disrupting new boss Ange Postecoglou and his squad by leaving after the season begins.

Spurs face Brentford next week in their opening game of the Premier League campaign. If a deal is done as per Kane's wishes, then Sunday's friendly could be the last time he is seen in a Tottenham shirt.

If it is to be his final game, then Kane went out in style, scoring four goals in a dominant win. He opened the scoring just before the break from the penalty spot after James Maddison was brought down by Eduard Kozik in the area.

Donetsk equalised on the stroke of half-time, before Kane put his side back in front with a bullet header five minutes into the second period. He completed his hat-trick soon after, sliding the ball home from Dejan Kulusevski's pass.

He wrapped up his scoring for the day when he tapped home the rebound after Manor Solomon's shot was saved. Dane Scarlett then scored a fifth and final goal, with boss Postecoglu insisting that Kane would continue to feature as long as he is at the club.

"There's no doubt that I would use Harry. I didn't need today to tell me that. He's world class. The way this team will play will help him as well. We'll create a lot of chances for him," the Spurs boss said.

"I certainly wouldn't talk about contracted players at other clubs. I'm not at Bayern though so they can do what they want. The guys have been working hard and trying to adopt the methodology.

"It's fair to say our squad is too big at the moment and there are guys who will want to explore opportunities elsewhere. I'm not involved in that. I think we'll see some movement out in the coming weeks."
