Baby boy, one, suffers serious injuries after falling from second-storey window

A baby boy has fallen from a second-storey window as the one-year-old was rushed to hospital via air ambulance.

Emergency services raced to the scene in Burnley, Lancashire, after the small child fell from the property earlier today. An air ambulance was called before the tiny boy was transported to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident are now underway. Police says they are looking to speak to several people who stopped to help the child this morning.

Officers from Lancashire Constabulary and ambulance crews attended the scene shortly after 10.30am. They were called to Heap Street earlier and it is believed the tot has suffered serious injuries after the fall.

Detective Inspector Mark Saunders requested anyone who was at the scene to come forward. He added that anyone with information or CCTV footage that could help, asked the public to contact 101 quoting log 0497 of August 6.

He said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with the baby and family at this distressing time We know following the incident, there were several people who thankfully stopped to help. We’re really keen to identify those individuals and speak to them to find out what happened”.

The force tweeted earlier: "We’re trying to find several people who stopped to help a baby, this morning in Burnley. We were called at 10:32am this morning (Sunday 6 August) to a report that a baby had fallen from the second-story window of a property on Heap Street, Burnley.

"Our officers and ambulance crews attended the scene, with the baby, a 1-year-old boy, taken to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital via air ambulance, for treatment for serious injuries. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway."
