A man who kidnapped a woman after supposedly offering her a lift planned to murder and mutilate her, police say.
Hunter Chase Nance, 24, is facing multiple charges including attempted murder, according to the police.
The victim, who hasn't been identified, called deputies on Wednesday after she was attacked by Nance.
She claimed that he had approached her at a gas station, and the two exchanged numbers.
Nance then offered to give her a ride home but instead took her to his home in China Grove, North Carolina, US, where he allegedly locked the door and attacked her with a knife.

Thankfully, the woman was able to fight back and escape, with members of the community calling first responders after seeing her injured on the road.
Nance met his victim at a North Carolina gas station and supposedly offered her a ride home (WBTV)When questioned by deputies, Nance admitted that he had randomly chosen the woman and wanted to kill her "for the thrill," according to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
He also said he planned to leave her body exposed in public view outside and even expressed an interest in cannibalism, police said.
Neighbours in the area expressed their shock and fear over the incident, with one stating, "It's a fear. You don't know who you're living next to anymore," according to Fox Carolina.
The neighbour, who said she lives next door to Nance, noted: "I mean obviously it could’ve ended up worse.
"Thank God the girl was strong enough to fight him off and get away.
"Honestly, I’ve had thoughts go across my mind, ‘what if he tried to break in my house and get one of my daughters?’
"That’s terrible that I even have that thought, I wish I hadn’t, but that is the reality of it right now."
He took her to his home in China Grove, locked the door and attacked her (WBTV)Nance was initially charged with false imprisonment and assault with a deadly weapon, but now faces the more severe charge of attempted murder.
He appeared in court on Tuesday, with his next hearing scheduled for March 8.

Nance is currently being held on a $1.2 million bond, an increase from the initial $600,000 bond.
The case has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for justice for the victim and increased awareness around personal safety.
