Football's most valuable teams as Arsenal become world's only £1billion squad

There are six Premier League teams among the 10 most valuable clubs in world football, according to the most up-to-date figures on player values.

Mikel Arteta's team have plenty of homegrown stars on their books, but have also invested heavily in the transfer market. Club record signing Declan Rice was among those to join the Gunners this summer, while Gabriel Jesus was among the big-money arrivals this time last year.

As Arteta's men prepare for a first season back in the Champions League since the days of Arsene Wenger, their squad value has passed the £1bn threshold. They're the only club in that position, but their closest challengers aren't too far away.

Using numbers from Transfermarkt (all correct at the time of writing) and using their player valuations, Mirror Football has taken a closer look at the 10 most valuable squads in the world. While Arsenal lead the way, there's a strong Premier League presence throughout.

10. Tottenham (£666m)

Spurs' inclusion in the top 10 is a combination of homegrown talent and expensive arrivals. Harry Kane is unsurprisingly top of their squad list, valued at £77.5m despite being in the final year of his contract, with James Maddison and Cristian Romero next in line.

The likes of Son Heung-min, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski are worth more than the London said paid for them, though Richarlison's value has moved in the opposite direction. There isn't a high amount of academy representation, with £12.9m Oliver Skipp next in line after Kane.

9. Liverpool (£685m)

Transfermarkt's market values suggest Liverpool paid roughly the right combined amount for their summer signings, albeit the wrong way round. They have £56m Alexis Mac Allister valued more highly than Dominik Szoboszlai, who arrived with a higher price tag.

Liverpool's most valuable player isn't record signing Darwin Nunez, nor is it leading man Mohamed Salah. Instead, that honour goes to Luis Diaz, who is valued at £64.6m.

8. Man Utd (£730m)

Man Utd's number can be expected to rise once they get their deal for Rasmus Hojlund over the line. The Dane, who at the time of writing is on the verge of a big-money switch from Atalanta, is the Italian side's highest-valued player at £38.8m.

The figures also suggest United slightly overpaid for both Mason Mount and Andre Onana, though this is unlikely to bother Erik ten Hag if the pair have the desired impact on his team's fortunes. Perhaps the most interesting tidbit is the valuation of Marcus Rashford, whose value has climbed 50% since last summer to make him United's most valuable player at £77.5m.

7. Barcelona (£736m)

As we write this, Barcelona narrowly lead United, but by the time it's published they might have dropped a place or two. This is because Ousmane Dembele, valued at £51.7m, is poised to join Paris Saint-Germain for a little less than that.

Fans of the Catalan club won't be surprised to see Spanish international talents Pedri and Gavi in the top two spots. Added together, the pair have a combined market value of a whopping £163.7m, not that any fans would want either starlet to leave Camp Nou anytime soon.

6. Chelsea (£766m)

Even after offloading a number of players deemed surplus to requirements, Chelsea's squad is worth a considerable amount. With Robert Sanchez close to joining from Brighton, we can expect the figure to climb a little higher in the coming days.

Top of the pile for Mauricio Pochettino's side are two players who arrived in 2023, with Christopher Nkunku and Enzo Fernandez both valued at £68.9m. There is also a solid academy presence, with four men - led by England international Reece James at £56m - boasting market values of £24m or above.

5. Bayern Munich (£777m)

Bayern's squad value could yet go up if they land Harry Kane before the end of the summer. Even now, though, the 2020 Champions League winners are among the biggest players on the continent.

This is in no small part due to Jamal Musiala, whose £94.8m valuation is almost as high as some entire squads of other European teams. The addition of a new goalkeeper could take their squad value even higher, with a number of top European names linked with Thomas Tuchel's side.

4. Real Madrid (£844m)

Even after losing reigning Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema, Real Madrid have one of the most valuable squads on the planet. Benzema's new club Al Ittihad are now in the top 100, though, thanks to the addition of the striker along with N'Golo Kante and Fabinho.

It won't surprise many to learn that Vinicius Junior is Los Blancos' most valuable player, having found yet another new gear last season. The Brazil star is valued at £129m, with summer signing Jude Bellingham not a million miles behind him and Rodrygo and Fede Valverde next in line.

3. Paris Saint-Germain (£870m)

Kylian Mbappe is the difference between PSG being ahead of Real Madrid or behind them, showing just how big a difference it could make if the Frenchman moves to the Bernabeu either this summer or next. His £155.1m valuation is the joint-highest in the world, and more than double that of any of his club team-mates.

Neymar, still the player to fetch the world record transfer fee, is now just the fifth most valuable member of PSG's squad. He comes in just a head of two of their summer signings, with Milan Skriniar and Manuel Ugarte both valued at £43.1m.

2. Manchester City (£999m)

Treble winners Manchester City are just shy of the billion pound mark, though the impending arrival of Josko Gvardiol ought to change that. Indeed, City would already be ahead of their Premier League rivals Arsenal were it not for the departure of the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez.

City's main man, based on Transfermarkt valuations, is last season's top scorer Erling Haaland. The Norwegian matches Mbappe's £155.1m valuation, with Phil Foden (£94.8m) the closest to joining him in the nine-figure club.

1. Arsenal (£1.03bn)

Arsenal's total valuation owes as much to cheap pickups and academy talents as it does to expensive signings. Hale End star Bukayo Saka cost the Gunners nothing but is now worth £103.4m, based on Transfermarkt's numbers, while £6m man Gabriel Martinelli is now worth more than 10 times that figure.

Their trio of new men - Rice, Havertz and Timber - clock in at a combined £161m. That's less than the Gunners paid, but the outlay from Mikel Arteta's side is designed to help them close the gap to rivals Manchester City, and a first Premier League title in 20 years would be far more valuable than numbers on a page.
