Man makes 'extremely surprising' discovery after cutting his IKEA desk in half

Everyone loves a bit of IKEA furniture. It can completely transform your home without breaking the bank. Most of us accept that the cheap and cheerful price tags normally mean it's probably not going to be made out of solid oak - but it does the job and it looks great. But one customer was still surprised when he saw exactly what his IKEA desk was made of.

He was doing a bit of DIY with his desk and decided to saw it in half. But when he looked at the two pieces afterwards, he was really surprised by what he saw. He posted photos on Twitter, and said: "I always knew that Ikea furniture was fake wood—particle board with a veneer on top.

"Fine, whatever. But last night I sawed into my desk and discovered the particle board *itself* is a lie. FOLKS IKEA WOOD IS LITERALLY CARDBOARD."

However he makes it clear that he's not angry or upset about it, just surprised. He later added: "To be clear, I don't have a problem with this: it's cheap, light, and works. But it was extremely surprising!" He also pointed out that it makes modification slightly more tricky.

He also pointed out that it makes modification slightly more tricky. Many people have also highlighted some of the positives of using cardboard. The design can makes things very sturdy while remaining lightweight.
