Grandma-of-seven dies after daughter 'attacks her with a can of pasta sauce'

A grandmother was found dead days after she was allegedly shoved downstairs and hit with an unopened can of pasta sauce by her own daughter.

Sheila Wobbeking, 78, died a week after her 49-year-old daughter Nicole Wobbeking was already in custody after she was charged with felony and misdemeanor assault charges over the case..

But following an autopsy, Sheila Wobbeking’s July 5 death was connected to the attack, authorities say.

Nicole is accused of slapping her mum in the face and pushing her down several stairs.

After the attack, Sheila Wobbeking reported to the police that she had sustained rib pain and a broken ankle as a result of the alleged assault.

Nicole Wobbeking was arrested on June 29, on charges of felony and misdemeanor assault. However, just days after her arrest, authorities were called to Sheila Wobbeking's residence for a "medical emergency." Despite efforts to save her life, she tragically passed away on July 5.

Following an autopsy, the medical examiner's office attributed Sheila Wobbeking's death to pulmonary thromboemboli, caused by a broken bone resulting from the brutal attack. This led law enforcement to classify her death as a homicide.

Prosecutors are now considering additional charges in light of Sheila Wobbeking's passing. Sheila Wobbeking, who remembered as a "beautiful soul" and a caring grandmother. Her obituary highlighted her unconditional love, unwavering support, and dry wit.

It reads: "She was so giving to others, even to those she didn’t know as she was an active volunteer for her community and church.

“She was so giving to others, even to those she didn’t know as she was an active volunteer for her community and church, in which Sharing and Caring Hands and Meals on Wheels being her particular favorites,” the eulogy goes on. “She loved traveling, reading, cooking (we could always expect a tray full of cookies at Christmas) and absolutely adored her dog, Sasha.”

Her granddaughter, Olivia Wobbeking, also wrote in the obituary that “Before she passed, a Cardinal was by her front window. She would always say it was Zack (her grandson who passed away in 2008) saying hello. Once she passed on, the cardinal began singing for the first time since it visited us.”

Sheila also had two other children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Nicole Wobbeking remains in Hennepin County Jail, where records show she's been booked since June 30 on $40,000 bail.
