Despite finding some success, many critics would argue Prince Harry and Meghan are still struggling to get established in Hollywood. A royal insider is now blaming their blunder on a lack of planning.

The source told PEOPLE: "There wasn’t necessarily a five-year plan." Plus, Joe Quenqua, a senior media strategist, told the publication that the couple seem to be going through some "serious growing pains".

Even without a thorough plan, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did manage to release a record-breaking Netflix show and strike a deal with Spotify for a podcast. Harry even put out a bestselling book with his memoir Spare. However, it didn't take long for some of these media enterprises to crumble.

By June 2023, their podcast deal fell through. Spotify axed the Meghan's Archetypes before it was even finished. According to the Wall Street Journal, staff from Archewell echoed the sentiment that the pair didn't have much of a plan. According to the source, the podcast "often lacked direction". Plus, apparently the couple wasn't prepared for the work load necessary to actually finish all their entertainment projects.

Although Spotify executive Bill Simons called Harry and Meghan "grifters" on his own podcast, another source close to the Archetypes podcast said that the couple aren't fully to blame. Instead, they claim Spotify didn't give them much guidance at all.

The insider told PEOPLE: "They were given no formal lay of the land to kick things off, so they were already on unsteady footing even before the ink was dry." They elaborated that they definitely were prepared with ideas, but claimed Spotify kept dragging their feet on the project.

Other experts have suggested that they are being held to a higher standard. A source said: "Very few other production companies are measured by what’s actually hit the airwaves."

The source, who is allegedly close to the couple, does not think that this is the end for Harry and Meghan's Hollywood takeover. They claimed that there are "plenty of things that are in different phases".

What we do know is that Harry and Meghan are still committed to the Archewell foundation. Plus Harry has another Netflix series coming up called Heart of Invictus. Meghan is also signed with the agency William Morris Endeavour.

One industry executive told the publication: "Has their final chapter been written? Absolutely not. Hollywood loves a comeback."
