Tottenham will contemplate making a move for Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson if Harry Kane is sold.

Bayern Munich want to sign Kane this summer and Thomas Tuchel is working hard to convince the England international, who has one year left on his contract, to make the switch to the Allianz Arena. Kane netted 30 goals for Tottenham last season and finished as the Premier League's second top scorer behind Erling Haaland (36).

However, Bayern's proposed move for Kane has hit a stumbling block as there is a £20million gap in valuation for the 30-year-old. Spurs believe Kane is worth at least £100m, despite his age and contractual situation. Bayern are aiming to bring the price below that point and make Kane one of their highest paid players.

In the case Tottenham do lose their star man, new boss Ange Postecoglou has been eyeing up replacements. According to the Daily Mail, Spurs will consider making an offer for Forest forward Johnson, who has been linked with a move away from The City Ground in the summer transfer window.

Forest have already rejected a £35m plus add-ons bid from Brentford for the Wales international. The Reds value Johnson at around £50m but the Bees are not willing to pay over the odds, having made Nathan Collins their record signing in a £23m deal from Wolves earlier this month.

Johnson is thought to be open to leaving his boyhood club and Tottenham could enter the race for the 22-year-old wide-man. He scored eight goals and provided three assists in his debut Premier League campaign as Forest finished 16th and avoided the dreaded drop.

The Welshman isn't the only player Tottenham have been looking at. Bayern's Mathys Tel and Gift Orban of Gent are also said to be in consideration by Spurs. However, Johnson has Premier League experience and is homegrown as he had been registered to an English or Welsh club before his 21st birthday.

After spending the 2020/21 season on loan at League One outfit Lincoln, Johnson endured a breakthrough campaign the following year. He notched 19 goals to help fire Forest to promotion back to the Premier League, with Johnson scoring twice in the play-off semi-final win over Sheffield United.

Johnson had been linked with a move to Brentford last summer, but he decided to stay as Steve Cooper's side prepared for their return to the top-flight for the first time in 23 years. Having scored his first Premier League goal in their 1-1 draw at Everton, Johnson added a further seven to keep Forest up.

Speaking earlier this month, Forest boss Cooper admitted that speculation surround Johnson's future is normal as The Reds prepared to travel to Spain for a pre-season tour. He said: "If there's speculation about anything else, then I’m not too sure. If there is speculation then that’s normal given the talented player he is.

"It's inevitable, if a player is doing well, especially young players that speculation will always be there. If people have got nothing to talk about then they'll make things up but we have to accept that."
