Meghan and Harry need to 'really take stock'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry must "really take stock of where they are" after suffering a series of setbacks, according to a royal author.

The couple announced the end of their $25million (£19.6million) deal with Spotify last month and have reportedly been snubbed by Hollywood A-listers, such as George Clooney. Meghan and Harry also missed out on a nomination for an Emmy Award for their Netflix docuseries.

Their show, titled Harry & Meghan, was released on the streaming service last December and received mixed reviews as the Sussexes made a series of bombshell claims about the Royal Family. The Duke of Sussex then released his debut memoir Spare earlier this year.

The book has proved to be rather controversial and has been seen abandoned by readers in hotels across Europe. Royal expert Pauline Maclaran has said the couple 'have done themselves no favours' with the book's release.

"The whole furore around the Netflix documentary but particularly Harry's memoir, I see that as a more defining moment," she said.

Speaking to The Express, Pauline said Spare "became very much an individual focus on Harry who was basically complaining about his royal life. It was an amazing best-seller but it didn't do them any favours.

"At the moment, Harry and Meghan are really taking stock of where they are and where they are going forward."

Pauline, professor of marketing and consumer research at Royal Holloway University in London, has questioned where Harry and Meghan will take their brand from here.

She said the couple need to have a "change in direction" after coming to the realisation that they can no longer "knock the Royal Family while they themselves hold onto their royal titles."

Her comments come after Paul Duddridge, producer and entertainment coach, told the publication that he believes Meghan and Harry should take advantage of the current Hollywood strikes. He urged the couple to use this "much-needed chance" to "regroup and retool their operations".

Paul added that "Harry and Meghan need to flip the narrative" after their previous projects received mixed reviews.
