Coastguard launch major search after person swept into the sea from rocks

A major search has been launched after a person was reportedly swept into the sea from rocks in Anglesey.

HM Coastguard is co-ordinating the response after a "serious incident" at Ravens Point in the Trearddur Bay area yesterday, deploying a helicopter and RNLI lifeboats. Holyhead, Moelfre and Rhosneigr Coastguard Rescue Teams are also helping, as are North Wales Police and Wales Ambulance Service.

A spokeswoman from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirmed the search had resumed this morning. Last night, police said that a "serious incident was currently ongoing", and that officers were "supporting colleagues from HM Coastguard".

The force urged people to avoid the area, saying: "Members of the public are kindly requested to stay away from the area for the time being." It added that their presence was "impeding on the operation there".

A nearby restaurant said a "big search operation was still going on" as of 8.30am today, and other reports claimed that a person had fallen into a gully while fishing.
