Molly Marsh's mum slams 'nasty' trolls and defends Love Island star's soap past

Love Island star Molly Marsh's mum Janet hit back at trolls who have said she used her fame to give her daughter an advantage on the ITV show.

The schoolteacher and former Corrie actress, 49, denies claims she had an involvement in her daughter's success on the dating series. Despite having a rocky start to her Love Island experience, 21-year-old content creator and musical theatre performer Molly has managed to make it through to the final days before the final.

Previously, Molly was dumped from the island despite finding a strong connection with 25-year-old personal trainer Zachariah Noble from South East London. The results came after season 2's Kady McDermott returned to the villa to steal hunk Zach, who was in a couple with Molly at the time.

After the shocking results, Molly returned as a Casa Amor bombshell. Some online users have suggested that Molly's mum worked as a ITV producer and helped bring the blonde bombshell back into the villa.

However, Janet denies the "nasty" comments - and adds she suffered from sleepless nights due to the online abuse she received from trolls. Speaking to The Daily Mail, she said, the comments from viewers are "made up." She said: "They have made stuff up about me. I've been through it all as well. For me to read what people think about me… that is tough. It is made up."

"At one point I was an ITV producer and pulling strings when I was actually sitting at school teaching phonics to some year sevens! Molly's mum, who played a receptionist and nurse on Coronations Street, says her daughter "worked hard through the same as everybody else" despite what some people may think.

She added: "I am happy being a teacher and doing my small acting roles as and when they come up. But I didn't want that to impact Molly's position on Love Island in case the public started to believe I was an ITV producer.

"I've had a couple of contracts doing small parts on Corrie and now I am friends with everybody? No… people don't understand how these things work. She's not a plant and she didn't get in easily. She has worked hard and been through the same process as everybody else."

Last night's episode, Molly enjoyed a date with Zachariah as the Islanders left the villa for their final dates with their partners. The pair reflected on their tremulous journey, and in a heartwarming moment, Zach dropped the L bomb on Molly leaving her lost for words.
