David Beckham has made a vow to establish a women's team at Inter Miami and described how he hopes he can help to inspire his daughter Harper.

The former England captain set up his Floridan franchise back in 2018, with the club playing their first game a year later before pulling off a stunning coup this summer to bring Lionel Messi to the United States. Beckham does not plan to stop there and has now outlined his next ambition for the Herons.

It has been a landmark summer for the Fort Lauderdale outfit, with Messi's former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba having also joined the World Cup winner in South Beach. Not content with the signings of some of the sport's most recognisable names, it seems that the club plan to eventually move into uncharted territory.

Beckham has now revealed that he has had conversations with his business partners at DRV PNK Stadium about potentially expanding into the women's game in the future. Beckham is, of course, known to be a real family man and he also opened up on a personal reason behind his desire to make this development.

In an interview with The Athletic, the former Real Madrid galactico explained the reasons behind his ambitions as well as detailing how he has discussed the possibility with co-owner Jorge Mas. He said: 'I've always talked — and me, Jorge and Jose have always talked — about having a women's team within the club (at Inter Miami).

"It's something we've spoken about from day one, actually. To bring a women's team into our club would be something we are definitely going to do. Having a daughter of my own, I want her to be inspired by something every single day."

Hypothetically speaking, Vice City's women's team would potentially play in the National Women's Soccer League, where three MLS clubs already have affiliated teams. The division was set up back in 2012 and currently has 12 participants from across the country.

As it stands, Orlando Pride are the only NWSL team based in Florida and the league has accepted new teams recently, with Bay FC and Utah Royals FC set to join in 2024. The league is not the only option open to Beckham and his partners either, with the USL Super League set to start next year.

Intriguingly, this league will have no teams from South Florida according to current plans, which may also present a fascinating opening for Beckham and his franchise. From wider afield in Florida, Tampa is set to field a team, while Jacksonville will also join as an expansion club at a later date.

There are also three pre-professional teams in the Miami area taking part in the USL W League. FC Miami City, Florida Elite Soccer Academy and Miami AC are the current representatives of the coastal city in that division.
