2 in 'critical condition after shooting saw 'dozens and dozens' of rounds fired

At least five people have been shot and two are in a "critical condition" after "dozens and dozens" of rounds were fired outside a Seattle Safeway store.

The shooting happened on Friday evening at around 9pm after two suspects were accused of opening fire at a community outreach event that was taking place in the car park.

“They’re handing out supplies, they’re handing out free food, they’re playing music. It makes for a festive, peaceful and safe environment and someone just opened fire on the event,” a local activist told KING5.

The victims include four males and one female, according to Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz, who revealed two are in critical condition at Harborview Medical Centre.

Two victims are stable and one, who was treated at the scene, was later released. All victims are in their 20s. Mr Diaz said at a media briefing the shooting began in the car park of the store close to King Donut.

The motive behind the attack is unclear as the police chief admitted he wasn't sure whether it was a targeted attack. Video from the scene shows at least 50 evidence tags on the ground, as cops urged people to stay away from the area while they investigate.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell told the media there were “too many guns in the wrong places and in the wrong hands.”

There are no suspects in custody. The shooting comes just days after a major Tesla factory had to be evacuated amid reports of an active shooter.

Workers were forced to stand outside the Tesla Giga Factory in Texas, Austin, after reports came in claiming shots had been fired at the plant. Footage from the scene showed a police cordon setup and a massive number of emergency service vehicles in attendance.

Employees also received an email about an "active shooter" at the factory, which employs over 12,500 people, as the building was cleared while an investigation took place. It read: "There is an Active Attacker near column location 35Z at the Giga Factory Texas. Please take cover and stand by for further details."

Police said workers were later given the all clear to return to the building and the road to the factory was also reopened following an investigation. The Travis County Sheriff's Department told reporters a 911 call in at 4.30am local time, and police and paramedics immediately deployed to the site.

Local media reports that police arrived and told workers: “Everyone needs to leave right now!” sending employees at the factory running for the exits. Workers were evacuated by police who warn them to stay away. After a search, nothing was found and no-one was hurt - but police are investigating where the call came from, and why.

Will H was driving past the scene and told The Mirror: "I was headed towards Pflugerville on 130 and it passes by the Tesla plant and I saw multiple police cars probably more than 20 flying down the highway at very high speed, multiple ambulances and firetrucks going towards the Tesla plant exit." The factory, known as Giga Texas, is the manufacturing home of the Tesla Model Y car in the US. It spans 2,500 acres.
