How often does your child wear freshly washed pyjamas to bed? That's the latest debate raging online, with parents giving a whole host of different answers from every day to once a week.

For many parents, the ideal scenario would be to have their children in clean clothes as frequently as possible, but with most of us working jobs that keep us out of the house and with energy prices still sky-high, we don't always have the time - or the spare cash - to run our washing machines every other day.

So, unless your child has at least seven pairs of pyjamas, giving them a completely clean set to wear to bed every night seems a little unattainable. And for most parents jumping into the debate, that was evident, as the vast majority seemed to take a more relaxed approach to their child's bedtime hygiene.

The debate began in a Reddit thread after one person asked: "I've got a toddler and an eight year old and my wife insists they wear clean pyjamas every night, whereas I think it should be less frequent. How long do your children wear their pyjamas? This doesn't include summer months!"

One person was on the side of the man's wife in the debate, as they insisted that because they give their kids a bath every single night, it only makes sense for them to wear clean pyjamas too. They wrote: "Fresh jammies every night because a nightly bath is part of our routine."

While other parents said they have more of a flexible schedule which sees their children changed our of their pyjamas every other day, or every three days.

Someone wrote: "I have a seven-year-old and a three-year-old. They each have two sets of pyjamas and wear them on alternate nights, each gets washed once a week."

As someone else added: "Simple. Eat dinner, Bath/Shower, Into PJs, Bedtime story, Bed. Generally, Pjs are washed every third day and sheets on Fridays."

But most parents confessed they only change their child's pyjamas when they're visibly dirty through having spilt food down them, or when they've been wearing them for a week.

A parent posted: "Sniff test. Smells bad then change. Been on for a week, change. That's all." While another agreed, writing: "For as long as they're clean? My kids are two and three, so anywhere from five minutes to a week."
