England vs Denmark live - Reaction as Lionesses win marred by Walsh injury

Another day done

And that's a wrap.

Argentina and South Africa drew 2-2 to get things going today, with Argentina's two second-half goals in five minutes clawing back an impressive point.

Lauren James started her first World Cup match for England and duly showed off why this is a good idea. But the fanfare was shortlived as midfielder Keira Walsh was forced off with a serious-looking knee injury, which spells nothing but bad news for the European champions.

Meanwhile, China mounted an impressive 1-0 win over Haiti despite going a player down with 20 minutes remaining in the first half. The final 10 minutes brought plenty of high VAR farce but a game defined by penalty appeals and denials was poetically decided by one.

Rachel Daly: I will play anywhere

England star Rachel Daly says she didn't mind being deployed at left back for the Lionesses' win over Denmark earlier today, despite the fact she was named in the squad as a forward.

The Villa striker forced her way into Sarina Wiegman's plans for the forward line after a stellar season in Claret and Blue but she was pushed further back on Friday with Alessia Russo leading the line once again and Bethany England came on as a substitute in the second half.

“Not at all (didn’t mind)," Daly told the BBC earlier today.

“I’m going to say what I always say. I will play anywhere for this team. It’s an honour to be anywhere on this pitch with this team. It really is.

“Putting on this shirt in any position that I’m needed, I’ll step into. Obviously it’s a little different from where I have been playing but it’s not too far from where I played this time last year. It’s a real honour to be on the pitch tonight in whatever position it may be.”

Wiegman praises James

Lauren James produced a strike befitting a global stage as the Lionesses ground their way towards the World Cup’s last 16, writes Neil Moxley.

Chelsea’s prodigiously gifted forward needed just six minutes to stamp her mark on the tournament with a superb solo effort. Head coach Sarina Wiegman drafted in the 21-year-old - and was rewarded with a goal of stunning quality.

ICYMI: Argentina stun South Africa

There was plenty of drama in today's early kick-off as Argentina came from two goals down to draw with South Africa.

South Africa were on course to pick up a first ever Women's World Cup victory in Dunedin, thanks to goals from Linda Motlhalo and Thembi Kgatlana. However, they were forced to settle for a point after Argentina scored twice within five second-half minutes.

Substitute Romina Nunez headed in Argentina's second goal after a superb half-volley from Sophia Braun had stunned South Africa. South Africa face Italy in their final group match while Argentina take on Sweden.

"James was cooking"

There were plenty of positives to glean from the Lionesses' 1-0 victory over Denmark and when asked about the Lionesses’ performance, Stormzy said: “It was fun to watch it alongside the fans. You could really feel the energy and support for the team and you can see they have really have the fire in them.

"Lauren James was absolutely cooking and it was a top-quality finish for her goal.“

Stormzy backs the Lionesses

Stormzy is football mad and it's not surprise who he's backing for this summer's Women's World Cup.

At a screening in London hosted by McDonalds, Stormzy took in England's second group game alongside Roman Kemp.

When asked whether he thinks England can win the World Cup, Stormzy said: “I’m backing them all the way. They brought it home during the Euros and they really took their opportunity to shine. The country will go nuts if they win it - we’d have to have one big party to celebrate.”

Gianni leaves the Women's World Cup

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has left the Women's World Cup less than week after the tournament started in Australia and New Zealand.

The Swiss also missed four separate matchdays during the tournament - despite attending some part of every single game at the men's World Cup in Qatar last December writes Kieran King.

"I think VAR went to sleep a little bit there"

Karen Carney is more than bemused about the Dumornay no-penalty call on BBC One.

Okay. We have VAR questions...

We lost track of the number of penalty appeals in the last 10 minutes of that match but for a tournament that prided itself on being one of the first to introduce explanations from official's in their decision-making on the pitch, we're left even more bamboozled over the series of events that have just transpired.

We can't help but imagine the Haitain players, staff and fans are feeling quite aggrieved, and we can't play them. Then again, Haiti got away with one as China's second penalty appeal was waved away without much care.

Wow. So 10-player China have claimed a chaotic 1-0 win over Haiti thanks to Wang Shuang's penalty to keep their World Cup journey alive as they face England next.

Haiti will have to beat Denmark by a solid margin and hope England smash China if they're to see the Round of 16.

Delepine shown a card for his troubles

Delepine has been incandescent on the touchline since the ignored penalty appeal on Dumornay. The official jogs over and flashes him a yellow card as if to accentuate the sense of suffering.

Now into 12 minutes of added time

And Haiti have another penalty appeal waved away. This one is less glaring but on the previous one, you can't help but feel aggrieved for Haiti.

....and this time it should go Haiti's way but it doesn't.

It's scintillating stuff from Haiti who break through China's defence on the break. Dou Jiaxing collides into Dumornay and it's a clear penalty... that the referee doesn't give. Instead offering a corner. VAR doesn't intervene. It's all carnage and chaos.

Haiti with a huge chance...

90' + 8': Oh... what a chance for Haiti. Nérilia Mondésir is in the box, twisting and turning and fashions a shot for herself that flashes across the face of goal. If she'd gone down in the box, she might've been awarded a penalty... which would have been in keeping with this game.

No penalty!

The drama is real.

The official emphatically overturns her decision, which is all that little bit confusing because we're not sure the clear and obvious rule can be applied here with her having given the penalty in the first place.

But it's a sigh of relief from Haiti and a deep feeling of injustice for Haiti and their fans.

We still have four minutes at the very least remaining so plenty more opportunity for drama.

Chen Qiaozhu looks to be all over Roseline Éloissaint as the two leap for a high ball in from Dumornay. She does have her hands all over her, which is why the official seemingly gave the penalty in the first place but the official is checking nonetheless.

It's in keeping with this tournament. But we're still not used to seeing such a big number on the fourth official's board.

Haiti desperate for something

89': China have been incredibly resolute but Haiti have struggled to create anything of note in the last 15 minutes. China's tenacity has certainly stymied their better efforts.

87': Zhang Linyan is replaced by Jiali Tang to a loud round of applause from around the stadium. She's been phenomenal today and unlucky not to have been awarded that second penalty appeal.

China's game management momentarily questionable

We're of the firm mindset that if your 10-player team is 1-0 up with less than 10 minutes of regular time remaining, it's about playing football as close to that corner flag as possible. Good ol' fashion keep away. China don't seem to be doing that and you have to wonder if it will come back to haunt them if Haiti can get make good on just one chance.

Double change for Haiti

Haiti manager Nicolas Delépine is throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at this match because if not, it's bye-bye World Cup football for his side.

A double change is required as China continued to dominate affairs with eight minutes of regular time remaining.

Chelsea Supris and Danielle Etienne come on for Pierre-Louis and Mathurin.

Meanwhile China bring on Dou Jiaxing.

China have another penalty shout

It's well clumsy from Haiti and it looks like a surefire penalty on Zhang Linyan again as she's taken out unceremoniously by Kethna Louis just inside the penalty box.

Yet after a brief VAR intervention, the penalty isn't given, though the official doesn't explain her reasoning behind this, which (we thought) was the whole point behind the requirement for audible explanations brought in to this tournament.

Colour us confused.

Wow. 10-player China are now leading 1-0 against Haiti thanks to Wang Shuang with 15 minutes remaining of regular time. If you'd asked us an hour ago if this would be the case, we'd have told you a firm no.
