Alexander-Arnold sends emotional message to Henderson after Liverpool exit
Trent Alexander-Arnold has sent an emotional farewell message to outgoing Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson ahead of his move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq.
Henderson was reportedly offered a ridiculous £700,000 per week wage to join the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittifaq – managed by his former Reds teammate Steven Gerrard. His long-term Anfield teammate Fabinho is also set to move to the Middle East, with a deal agreed with Saudi champions Al-Ittihad.
Al-Ettifaq will pay around £13m for Henderson, who has ended his trophy laden 12 years on Merseyside. The 33-year-old won eight trophies at the club, including the Champions League trophy in 2019 and the club’s long-awaited Premier League title the following year.
Henderson has been a regular for the Reds in those successes, clocking up 492 appearances for Liverpool – whom he joined from Sunderland in 2011. Not only was he a teammate with Alexander-Arnold at club level, but on the international stage with England too.
Indeed, Henderson helped provide Alexander-Arnold with the freedom to play his natural game by bombing down the right flank as the midfielder often dropped into the space behind the rampaging full-back – with the two developing a strong understanding.

“A constant inspiration to me and the perfect role model on a daily basis, following your lead meant i was always on the right path. You have done so much for me on and off the pitch, more than you will ever know and for that ill never be able to repay you.
“I’ll always be grateful for the support you’ve given me to become a man and a better player. We’ve shared some of the best moments of our lives together, and achieved things we could only dream of as kids. Here’s to the memories we have created.. Thank you for everything my captain.”
Liverpool’s midfield has been decimated by player exits, with Henderson and now Fabinho exiting after Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner – who all left as free agents at the end of their contracts.
Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been signed from Brighton and RB Leipzig respectively but the club are likely to add two more defensive-minded midfielders. Romeo Lavia of Southampton is a prime target while Amrabat is also on their wanted list.
