Ethan Slater has filed for divorce from his wife of five years following rumoured relationship with Ariana Grande

Ethan Slater has officially filed for divorce from his wife Lilly Jay following his rumoured relationship with co-star Ariana Grande after meeting on the set of Wicked.

Slater's wife Lilly was allegedly 'completely blindsided' when she heard the news the two were reportedly dating.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Slater chose to legally end his marriage on Wednesday. The Wicked star filed the divorce papers in New York, but has not yet revealed the listed reason.

Slater and his wife Lilly were high school sweethearts and have been married for five years. The pair also has a son together and reportedly celebrated their 10-year anniversary last year.

In the film, Grande will be taking on the role of Glinda the good witch and Slater will be starring as Boq.

PageSix reported that according to sources, Ethan's wife Lilly was heartbroken by the alleged relationship between her husband and his co-star Ariana. A source told the outlet: "It's horrible. They were high school sweethearts." The source added: "They have a baby! She's a wreck."

As for Dalton Gomez and Grande, it was announced that Grande split up with her husband of two years. Speculation began that the two might spilt when the Thank U, Next singer was spotted without her wedding ring on at Wimbledon. She also took down her wedding photos from her Instagram, a move that one social media expert says makes a statement about the state of her marriage. It was also rumoured that the couple were separated for the past seven months as her husband 'dated other people.'

As for Grande and Slater, a source close to Slater told TMZ: "It's understandable that emotions are high and it's hard seeing your ex move on, especially in such a public way, and her friends are trying to protect her. But Ari and Ethan are just trying to lay low and be respectful of their exes as they pursue this new relationship."

Grande and Slater have not yet confirmed that they are dating since the rumored romance has been reported.
