A man has been left feeling mortified after his girlfriend "stank up" an entire plane after bringing a lasagne onboard to eat during the flight. He explained how his girlfriend ordered a lasagne at the airport terminal knowing she wouldn't have time to eat it before boarding.

Instead, she put it in her hand luggage and unwrapped it shortly after taking her seat on the plane. However, it's strong smell caused the entire cabin to look in her direction, prompting a flight attendant to speak up.

Taking to Reddit, the man said: "We sat down, before taking off, she opened it up and started eating. I didn’t say anything at first, but then a flight attendant approached and said in an informative way - not overly positive or negative - 'Oh you’re the person eating lasagne. We can smell it throughout the whole plane'. And then she left us."

Embarrassed, the man asked his girlfriend to put the lasagne away because it was drawing negative attention toward them - but she outright refused. "My interpretation of the flight attendant’s comment was a passive-aggressive way of telling my girlfriend that everyone could smell her lasagne throughout the plane," he added.

"I thought it would be best to put it away for the sake of others who might not appreciate the strong smell of her food. My girlfriend put up a bit of a fuss and didn’t want to put it away at which point I told her it was likely ruining other people’s flight experience having to smell her food. She didn’t take kindly to those words."

However, most social media users sided with his girlfriend, saying "lasagne isn't even a smelly food" so there shouldn't have been anything to complain about. Commenting on his post, one user said: "I would never order airport lasagne but you're wrong the flight attendant didn't say to put it away then it was fine, plus there are way worse smells that could be on that plane."

Another user added: "Airlines no longer serve meals on most flights, so many passengers have to bring their own food on board. Lasagne, pizza, or tacos are way better than fish in the 'strong smell' category. I don’t think the flight attendant was being passive aggressive at all…she was just making an observation. A third user said: "How does lasagne ruin someone’s flight? Maybe they were jealous they didn’t have any. Now seafood may be a different story.."
