Patrick Mahomes possesses a champion-like mentality similar to that of NFL legend Tom Brady - and his latest comments prove it.

The reigning Super Bowl champion and MVP is coming off a superb season that ended with him lifting the Vince Lombardi trophy for the second time in just four years. The Kansas City Chiefs are currently in training camp as they prepare to defend their championship next season.

During an interview with CBS Sports, Mahomes warned NFL rivals he believes his team is becoming a dynasty. But, like the great Brady before him, he knows they have to win more Super Bowls to cement their status.

“I think we’re the beginning of one," Mahomes said. "I think in dynasties, I always say you’ve got to win three.

“Our job is to do whatever we can to win as many as we can, not have any regrets when we step off the field. I think if we keep the mentality we have, we can look back at the end of our careers. Then we can decide if we’re a dynasty or not.”

In the five years Mahomes has been part of the NFL, he has already achieved so much. Since becoming the Chiefs’ starting quarterback the franchise has made it to the Super Bowl three times, winning twice and losing once, along with two AFC Championship Games, with both defeats coming in overtime.

Deep playoff runs in each of his NFL seasons along with multiple individual accolades for Mahomes is very impressive, but he is not resting on his laurels as he demanded more from his teammates. They are again expected to be the team to beat in 2023.

"Everybody's motivated by that," Mahomes said. "You should be motivated to do it again.

"When you have that parade, when you go through the offseason that I've been through, you want to do it again." Though he and his team have been experiencing some successful seasons recently, the Super Bowl MVP does not want to get complacent and is doing all he can to keep the team motivated.

"This time, I think I'm going to try to really push and motivate guys to continue to try to get better, even though we're winning football games," he added. "Let's not be satisfied with just winning [but also] finding ways to get better every single week."

As the Chiefs prepare for another grueling campaign, they are monitoring the fitness of wide receiver Kadarius Toney. According to reports, the 24-year-old underwent a procedure on his knee and proceeded to aggravate the injury on Sunday when retrieving a ball kicked down the field.

He will now miss some of the team’s training camp and is now a doubt for week one of the new NFL season, which will commence for the Chiefs on Sept. 7 against the Detroit Lions.
