Netflix viewers horrified by 'emotionally traumatic' series where couples have affairs

Netflix viewers were horrified by a new Spanish dating series that sees couples cheat on each other.

The new series, Deep Fake Love, uses artificial intelligence to test the trust in the contestants' relationships.

Five couples, all in serious relationships, join the show with doubts about the next stages of their romance. Within the first episode, the couples are split up into separate houses called 'Mars' and 'Venus'.

Each house has single people keen for quick connections. After each day, one-half of every couple is shown videos of their partner allegedly misbehaving sexually with the singles.

The person who was shown the video doesn't know that the videos could be fake until after they've watched the horrifying footage.

Contestants are asked to guess whether the footage uses deepfake technology or is real.

Those who correctly choose the right answer for the scenes have a chance of winning the grand prize of €100,000 (£86,500).

Viewers were shocked at the extent the show went in order to create drama. They took to social media to share their complaints.

One person wrote: "How can this be entertainment? I can’t even finish it.

"For the love of God, this show causes emotional trauma and anxiety to the couples. I thought the other dating/reality shows are toxic enough, this one’s the worst."

Another added: "This might be the messiest show in existence," while one said: "This show called deep fake love on Netflix is dangerous as hell."

"There’s a new Netflix show called deep fake love where they trick people into thinking their partners cheated on them but making deep fakes of them cheating and the test is to see “how well they think they know their partners” aka loyalty test. this is horrific," another concerned fan posted.

One person said: "Deep Fake Love is the most unhinged show I've watched on Netflix. The causal gaslighting and emotional torment. Wtf did I just watch."

"Deep Fake Love aka "Falso Amor" is like a bad Black Mirror episode synopsis, yet its a "real" reality tv show. We're deepfaking s**t to ruin relationships now for entertainment? Damn," one wrote.

The 'unhinged' reality series is hosted by Raquel Sanchez Silva.

One of the couples in the show, Paula Di Martino and Javi Ramón, have been together for nine years and their relationship was tested with the unorthodox AI videos.

Ángel Santiago and Gabriela Fdez de Bobadilla have been together for at least five years.
