Bayern Munich are cranking up their bid to sign Harry Kane after tasking their two big transfer hitters to get the deal done.

While Thomas Tuchel’s Bundesliga champions have flown out to Japan to face treble-winning Manchester City in a pre-season friendly, chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Marco Neppe have stayed behind in Germany to broker Kane’s £100million departure from Tottenham.

Bayern believe they now have a free run at England’s record goalscorer after Manchester United dropped out of the running when the financial scale of a move became apparent - and are ready to shatter their transfer record to make it happen. Tuchel refused to comment on Bayern’s efforts to land Kane and City full-back Kyle Walker in a sensational double swoop on the Premier League.

But when asked why Dreesen and Neppe had missed the trip to the Far East, he confirmed: “They are doing something it is necessary to do in Europe to support us.”

Bayern have tasked club president Herbert Haines and chief financial officer Michael Diedrich to negotiate with City football director Txiki Begiristain to secure an agreement for Walker during their time in the Far East after becoming convinced that the 33-year-old England full-back has accepted their offer of a new challenge.

But Kane is the club’s No 1 target. Bayern won 11 consecutive titles but were knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals by City. And they believe the 29-year-old will provide the firepower they lost when Robert Lewandowski joined Barcelona last summer.

Guardiola, who failed in a bid to take Kane to the Etihad two years ago, believes his former club will get a class act if they can find an agreement with Spurs. Guardiola said: “I don’t have words to say how good Harry Kane is, but he’s a Spurs player.

“Bayern always wants the best players - and Harry is one of them. I can’t say anymore. He’s not our player. Kane is none of my business.”

Bayern president Herbert Hainer insisted Kane’s presence at Bayern would boost the Bundesliga. Hainer said: “I think that here in the Bundesliga we don’t have many international stars anymore. Bayern always try to bring stars. Harry Kane is a highly attractive player, England captain and top scorer. He would do us and the Bundesliga good.”
