Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are "revisiting who they are as individuals" after being surrounded by split speculation, according to a relationship expert.

Rumours have been circulating that the couple are going through a rough patch, with it alleged the pair have been "taking time apart" from each other.

Harry is said to be getting ready to fly to Africa for a new Netflix project without his wife. Meghan was also recently seen on a solo trip to her local farmer's market, with relationship expert Kate Mansfield suggesting the intensity of Meghan and Harry's romance is "waning".

However, she said this doesn't necessarily mean all is over for the couple.

"Harry and Meghan are one of the most heavily scrutinised, observed and criticised couples in the public eye," Kate told The Mirror.

She said the couple have always had a relationship which seems "very much like the ultimate Disney movie story".

Kate continued: "I think that what we are seeing is a normal progression of their relationship from the intensely romantic connection of a couple, to the maturing of family life where the intensity wanes and is replaced with a more gentle kind of love. That does not necessarily indicate the end of their relationship."

The relationship expert said Meghan and Harry will be under intense public pressure to "keep up appearances", something which could be adding to the challenges the couple are facing.

Speaking about Meghan's recent outing without Harry, Kate insisted it is not a cause for concern.

She said: "It is a sign of a healthy relationship. No couple can realistically maintain the kind of intensity that is common at the start, it is not healthy or realistic."

She continued that their time apart "looks to me that they are just revisiting who they are as individuals, as well as working together as a family unit.

"The idea that this spells an impending separation is really damaging to the way relationships are portrayed in general, we all need space and to do things separately to be able to function happily long term with a partner."
