Having reoccurring dreams is a normal phenomenon, but most experts agree that the reason for it is related to unresolved difficulties or occurrences in people's lives. One common dream that you might recognise is one where you're being chased.

But if you keep having the same dream it can be confusing, especially if you try to analyse why you're having it. Another popular theory is that these common dreams are your brain's way of trying to sort through the events of the day.

Sleep experts at BedKingdom have explained that if you keep dreaming about being chased, it can be a warning sign, and it's usually caused by underlying feelings of "stress and anxiety".

They said: "Feelings of stress and anxiety are the major cause of being chased while dreaming. If someone is feeling threatened in their waking life, that can also translate into dreams of being chased.

"Sometimes, these dreams can result from feelings of anger and are seen as a warning to watch out for possible threats."

A spokesperson from BedKingdom added: "Dreams can be linked to events that have happened or are currently happening in our lives.

"Remembering dreams can be difficult. Studies show that people forget 80-90% of their dreams and some people can't remember anything. Writing dreams down as soon as you wake up can help you to remember and then you can try and interpret the meanings.

"Negative emotions and feelings of anxiety are more prevalent in dreams according to a study of over 50,000 people by psychologist Calvin S. Hall. By analysing dreams, we can problem solve and identify ways to help with issues we encounter in our lives."

Another common dream people have is the feeling of falling, which also has a significant meaning. According to experts, the sensation of falling may represent helplessness.

If you've found yourself dreaming about car accidents, don't worry, according to experts they aren't prophetic, which means they aren't a warning about what's to come. It could just mean that you're spending more time on the road than usual.

Even more morbidly, if you're dreaming about death, if the dream involves violence it could suggest you need to "be careful" to keep an eye out for "immediate dangers and enemies", but if it's peaceful it could be a "symbol of moving on, graduating, changing, or spiritual awakening," said a tarot reader.
