Have you ever watched Netflix and felt that you can't really hear what the characters are saying because the background sound is too loud? It turns out this is an annoying, but common issue - and you don't need to just put up with it.

PC tech enthusiast and online creator Matty McTech recently shared the hack that fixes the issue, and people are saying it's "life changing".

In the video, which was uploaded to his TikTok account @setupspwan, he said: "I was today years old when I found this out.

"If you've been watching Netflix and you struggle to hear quiet voices over the background music and sound effects, it might be because Netflix thinks you have surround sound."

If you don't have surround sound, you're going to want to change the settings to the correct one, and it couldn't be more simple. Matty showed how you simply need to pause the video you are watching, and go down to down bottom where you'll see the language you're watching in.

You'll see a button that says "Other", and here you'll see the default audio that is selected. If it says "English [Original] (5.1)", or any other language followed by "5.1", it's "because Netflix thinks you have five speakers and one subwoofer," explained Matty.

He continued: "So if you don't [have surround sound] you want to select "English [original]. And now the background music is a little quieter and I can hear him talk."

In the same video, Matty also shared a nifty website called Netflix-codes.com, which will reveal secret Netflix category codes that won't appear on the usual website or app, such as "satires" or "Cult horror movies". Simply take the codes and key it into the search function, and it will bring up all the TV shows or movies from that category.

The video has been seen more than 4.4million times, and received thousands of comments, with one person saying: "WHAT?!?! this is life changing".

Another added: "THANK YOU SOOOOO FRICKEN MUCH .... I hated the audio issue," and a third simply added: "It worked!"
