Prince George is officially in double figures as the future King today celebrates his 10th birthday.

The landmark celebration will no doubt call for a special day spent with his parents the Prince and Princess of Wales - and lucky George will also be in line to receive some epic gifts from the likes of his grandfather King Charles and other family members.

Among those who have probably been shopping recently to buy him an all-important present will be his seven godparents, who include his dad's cousin Zara Tindall and Julia Samuel, a dear friend of his late grandmother Princess Diana.

And speaking in a previous interview, Julia revealed a tradition that was inspired by Diana she upholds on George's birthday - by buying him "impossible" toys that dad William has to spend days carefully assembling. She once said: "I do to George what [Diana] did to us, which is give impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making.

"William then has to spend days putting together. And then put all the machinery together, and it makes awful tooting noises and lights flashing and all of that."

She added that while poor William struggles for days on end to put together the tricky toys, the rest of the family takes great pleasure in watching him squirm - especially "cheeky" George. She explained that it "makes [her] laugh, and it makes George laugh."

Julia talked about the charming tradition when she was a guest on the podcast How to Fail with Elizabeth Day - in an episode in 2020 to mark what would have been Diana's 59th birthday. Diana never got to meet her grandchildren or her daughter-in-law Kate as she died following a car crash in Paris at the age of just 26.

Describing her adorable godson, Julia said he was "amazing" - adding her dear friend Diana would have adored him too. "He's funny and feisty and cheeky and God she [Diana] would have loved him so much," she said. "That is heartbreaking for all of them."

Last week George got an early birthday present when he got the chance to sit in the cockpit a C-17 transport aircraft and play with the switches on a family day out at an airshow.

George and his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, toured the Royal International Air Tattoo privately with their parents as their school holidays began in earnest. The event was a return visit for George who was taken to the show by his parents in 2016, aged three, and was pictured wearing ear defenders at the time.
