Giants player reveals he had fractured foot when playing game of his life
New York Giants wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins has revealed his remarkable performance against the Minnesota Vikings during the NFC Wild Card Round game came despite playing with a fractured foot.
Hodgins recorded 105 receiving yards on eight catches and scored a touchdown in the 31-24 win for the Giants over Minnesota. His heroics came despite his ankle being bruised and discolored before the game. "I thought it was just like a high ankle sprain - the ankle was all black and blue," Hodgins said on the 2nd Wind Podcast.
"Dabs [head coach Brian Daboll] was all scared. Everyone was like, 'Oh, you gonna play?'. I was nervous for myself. My dad (former NFL fullback James Hodgins) is calling me like, 'Bro, you gonna be good?'. And I'm like, 'I hope so.'"
Hodgins took extra safety precautions to protect his injury ahead of the game, heavily taping his ankle, and he couldn't even plant the injured foot. "It was like the third quarter of that game, and I was saying, 'Hey, if I have to run like an end cut, like we gotta [sic] switch sides cuz [sic] I can't plant that deep off this foot," he continued. "I could do short, intermediate stuff. And I was just like dug in through like the whole time."
The game was sink or swim for Hodgins, who the Giants re-signed this offseason. Teammate Saquon Barkley, who is regarded as one of the NFL's best running backs, wasn't so lucky and is considering sitting out the 2023 season amid his stalemate with the team over a long-term contract.

Hodgins added: "Me and Saquon (Barkley) say it all the time: You're in the deep end, so what are you gonna do? You going to sink or swim? I had no other option at that point. And you know, that's when I saw a different side of myself like, you know, pop open and I was just like so locked in. I was just in a different mode that game."

The two-time Pro Bowler will lose money only if he misses regular-season games.
My leverage is I could say, 'F--- you' to the Giants, I could say, 'F--- you to my teammates," Barkley told The Money Matters podcast released on July 11. And be like, 'You want me to show you my worth? You want me to show you how valuable I am to the team? I won't show up. I won't play a down.' And that's a play I could use.
"Anybody [who] knows me, knows that's not something I want to do. Is it something that's crossed my mind? I never thought I would ever do that, but now I'm at a point where I'm like, 'Jesus, I might have to take it to this level.' Am I prepared to take it to this level? I don't know."
