Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has promised that he will break a franchise record this season.
Fields is getting ready for his third season in the NFL with the Bears, where he has already established himself as one of the league’s top QBs. The 24-year-old was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, after attending Georgia University as a freshman before finishing his college career at Ohio State.
His first two seasons in the NFL saw Fields register 1,870 and 2,242 passing yards, respectively. There have also been 24 total passing touchdowns, including 17 in the 2022 season.
Each season has seen considerable improvement from Fields, and he is already looking ahead to what 2023 has in store. The quarterback says he is looking to break the all-time passing record for a Bears QB in a single season.
Erik Kramer currently holds the record for the most passing yards in a season by a Bears quarterback, with the 3,838 he achieved in 1995. No QB has ever surpassed 4,000 passing yards in a season for the Bears franchise, and Fields says he’s confident that he’ll break that record this season.
San Francisco 49ers star Brock Purdy could miss a year after injury horror
"I will,” said Fields on the All Things Covered podcast, when asked if he will break the record during his time with the Bears. "I plan on doing it this year, too. I plan on doing it this year."
Fields led the NFL in 2022 for the most rushing yards for a quarterback with 1,143 in total. To put that into perspective, that was more than the likes of Christian McCaffrey, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams and Travis Etienne, who are all running backs.

Fields and the rest of the Bears roster are due to return for the first day of training camp on July 25 at the PNC Center at Halas Hall in Lake Forest, Illinois, just three days after the rookies.
The Bears have a total of three pre-season games over the course of August. The Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills will be the NFC North team’s friendly opponents next month.
That will be the build-up to the Bears’ Week One opener against NFC North rivals the Green Bay Packers on September 10. Fields and co will be looking to improve on their 2022 efforts which finished 3-14 and bottom of their division.
