Patrick Mahomes was involved in an awkward exchange with a fan at the American Century Championship.

While competing in the celebrity golf event, the NFL star was asked by a child if he could sign his jersey. The reason Mahomes provided for denying the request is he was told during one of his rounds not to sign for everyone in order to save time.

According to the reigning Super Bowl MVP, he was told not to sign any autographs during his round as he was taking too long and holding up the players behind him.

"They told me I can't do anymore. I was signing stuff, and they said I was taking too long,” the quarterback told a group of fans. When the young fan saw his hero, he said to the Kansas City Chiefs player: "Mr. Mahomes, will you sign my jersey when you're done?"

The quarterback turned back and to the disappointment of the child, he answered: "Can't sign for everyone, can't make everybody happy.”

Despite Mahomes offering a valid explanation for why he was unable to sign, the father of the young child continued. He said: "Yeah, you can, you can just make one kid happy out of a hundred." Mahomes hit back: "I'll make 99 sad,” before the dad added: "That's alright, one out of 99, at least it ain't zero percent.”

Following the golf tournament, Mahomes is participating in training camp and preparing for a busy pre-season, before the Kansas City Chiefs aim to successfully defend their Super Bowl championship. Before that though, he was promoting the Netflix documentary ‘Quarterback’ which followed three quarterbacks throughout the 2022 NFL season.

Mahomes stars in the program alongside Philadelphia Eagles star Marcus Mariota and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. In a video posted by Netflix on Twitter, each player was asked who they believed is the league’s most underrated player. Mahomes responded by mentioning one of the players starring in the documentary.

“I think this guy right here,” said Mahomes, while pointing at Cousins. He added: “I mean, if you look at Kirk over here, man, wins every year, puts up great stats. Did at Washington, does it in Minnesota. Talk to any other quarterbacks in the league, they’re gonna say the same thing.”

Mariota was in agreement with Mahomes with his verdict on Cousins. “I agree with that,” he began. “I’ve been in a few systems and a few coaches, and a lot of the tape that we’d watch was of Kirk. A guy, consistently year in and year out, continues to prove why he is one of the top quarterbacks in the league.”

Cousins went on to name Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as his most underrated quarterback in the NFL. “I kind of always scratch my head at the Jimmy Garoppolo situation in San Francisco because I know how hard it is to win in this league, and it seems like every time he goes out there, they win," he said.

"And then they’re moving on from him or trying to draft somebody and trade up. And I’m thinking it’s pretty hard to win double digit games in this league, and that’s all they seem to do when he plays. So obviously, I don’t know all that goes there, but if he does it again with the Raiders, at some point, this guy is just a winner.”
