Lionel Messi appears to be winning the respect of his new Inter Miami teammates for his off-field actions with a generous gesture already having gone down well.

The Argentine icon is known around the world for his prowess on the pitch but he has already made his mark with his teammates after he ensured that one of his fellow stars did not go without when it came to attending his welcoming ceremony. The spectacular event saw the 36-year-old presented to his new supporters at DRV PNK Stadium for the first time and he was determined to ensure that none of his new colleagues missed out.

When fellow forward Leonardo Campana was on the lookout for tickets to be witness to the landmark event, the legendary winger was quick to reach out when the Ecuadorian contacted him. The 22-year-old posted a message in the team's group chat in the hope of sorting out some spare passes for the grand occasion.

The Camp Nou hero showed his humility, however, and was eager to ensure that the youngster was not left disappointed in his search for tickets. Former Tottenham and Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin explained that he was impressed with the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's response, declaring that the incident demonstrated the superstar's down-to-earth nature.

He said: "On Sunday, [Leonardo] Campana was looking for tickets and he put in the group chat if anybody has any tickets. I didn't even know whether Messi was in the group chat yet, but he popped up straightway and said, 'How many do you need though?'

"Straightaway like that. From there I was just like 'Woah!' You know what I mean. Like straight off the bat, they maybe know each other for three days or something. But to show that generosity is a great fresh example of how [Messi] is."

The ceremony itself saw Messi paraded alongside fellow new signing Sergio Busquets, who has reunited with his former Barcelona teammate in Florida. Greeted by club co-owners David Beckham and Jorge Mas, the ex-Blaugrana duo were met with major fanfare at DRV PNK Stadium in front of 20,000 fans.

The supporters present braved some rainy conditions to take in what will likely go down as one of the landmark moments in the history of the sport stateside. The outspoken billionaire businessman Mas gave Messi the billing of "Inter Miami's number 10, America's no.10, the best no.10 in the world, Lionel Andres Messi", while Beckham made headlines for nearly slipping over during the unique presentation.

In a typically humble manner, World Cup winner was eager to thank the club, his teammates and the staff for their welcome since he jetted into Fort Lauderdale on July 16. Speaking in Spanish, Messi told the supporters who were present: "Thank you very much. First of all I want to thank all the people of Miami for this welcome, this affection. I want to thank you for the kindness and love that you have given me, this has happened so fast."

In a further tribute to the owners, he added: "They are making everything easy for us, everything has been spectacular since we arrived. I really want to start training and to compete, I want to win for the club to continue growing. I hope that you will join us as you have since the season began. I thank my new colleagues for the welcome."
