A teen mum tried to use a fake hitman website kill off her toddler son, agreeing to pay $3,000 for the murder, police say.

Jazmin Paez, 18, is accused of using RentAHitman.com to assassinate her son, who is just three-years-old.

Paez, from Miami, Florida, was charged with first-degree solicitation of murder and third-degree using a communications device for unlawful use, court records show.

Her son is in the custody of the family, investigators said.

Detectives became aware of the alleged hire attempt when they were tipped off by the man who operates the fake murder-for-hire website.

Police have said Mr Innes set up the website to try and catch people out and that the suspect provided the address for the child and images of him.

Law enforcement went to the house and spoke to the child's grandmother, who was able to identify the child based on the online murder request.

Robert Innes told NBC Miami: "The ability to research names and addresses and verify the intended target lived in a particular address. That to me is a red flag.

"If that information is corroborated, to me that is something that needs to be looked at and that’s why I referred it."

Mr Innes claims Miami-Dade police did not take his report seriously. He alleges police threatened to send him a cease-and-desist- letter to warn him off from contacting them further.

“They were not interested. They sent me an email saying if I contacted one more time they were going to send a cease and desist letter,” added Mr Innes.

The same website has led to a number of arrests of people hoping to hire a hitman to kill someone.

An Air National Guardsman was arrested in April for allegedly using the website to try and apply to be a hitman.

Innes told People last year: "There are customer service awards and fake customer testimonials. "If you click on the banner ad, it opens up a brand-new window to the FBI Internet Crime Complaints Centre.

"If you see that, and you still move forward with filling out a service request form, then I'm your man."

Paez allegedly tried to use the website on Tuesday and hoped the deed would be done by Thursday. She has been given a $15,000 bond and told to stay away from the child.

The Florida Department of Children and Families has been notified.

The RentAHitman site is a controversial website that has led to dozens of arrests from people looking to brutally hurt, or kill, someone on their behalf.

In 2021, a woman in Michigan confessed to using the site to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband for $5,000.

Wendy Lynn Wein, 52, contacted the fake website that claims to "solve problems" and told them she wanted her ex-husband dead.

She met the undercover officer, who was posing as a hitman in a car park, and offered him the money and provided him with a payment for travel expenses.

The woman pleaded guilty to her crimes and was sentenced between 7 and 20 years in 2022. The sentences will be served concurrently and her plea conditions means she will serve no longer than nine years.
