LeBron James left a. young fan in tears after a priceless interaction while in Puerto Rico.

James, 38, made a surprise appearance at Game One of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) Championship Finals between the Gigantes de Carolina and Vaqueros de Bayamon . The away team from the Puerto Rican city of Carolina edged an overtime thriller with the Los Angeles Lakers player in attendance at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez.

Once it became apparent that James was in the building, attention soon diverted away from the court. He received a rapturous reception from those inside the arena, and the player reciprocated by greeting several fans.

A young fan, in particular, has gone viral after a heartwarming interaction with James after extending their hand in his direction. While walking past, he grabbed the youngster's outstretched palm before leaning in to kiss the top of their hand.

He mouthed a few words through the amassed crowd before moving towards the court. In the footage captured in the aftermath of the interaction, the child is covering their mouth with one hand and rapidly moving their other hand in disbelief.

Incredibly emotional, they appear on the verge of tears as they remove their hand from covering their mouth before being embraced by the people around them. After speaking with one of them, a beaming smile cracks across their face as the realisation starts to sink in that they have met the NBA idol.

They may have had a similar reaction when finding out that James is returning for the 2023-24 NBA season after initially considering retiring from basketball following the Lakers' playoffs exit. He announced he would be returning at the ESPYs.

“I don’t care how many more points I score, or what I can or cannot do on the floor,” James said at the awards show. “The real question for me is: Can I play without cheating this game? The day I can’t give everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today.”

The player's agent, Klutch Sports founder Rich Paul, even predicts that James could continue playing for a further half a dozen seasons into his mid-40s. “Five or six more years? Listen, he’s one guy that I’m not gonna say no about,” Paul said In an interview with SiriusXM.

“I think it’s important to understand what really motivates him. I know it. Obviously, I have been around … As long as his mind is there, as long as he’s still excited about playing the game, in addition to the health, absolutely [he can].”

Those claims add credence to James' oft-stated aim of playing with his son Bronny in the NBA. His eldest child is joining the University of Southern California this summer and is a predicted first-round pick - potentially in the lottery - on many early mock drafts.
