Alejandro Garnacho is ready to commit his long-term future to Manchester United by signing a long-term contract extension.

The winger, 18, has been the breakout star of United's impressive season under Erik ten Hag, grabbing three goals and four assists in 25 appearances in all competitions. He had only made two senior appearances before last August but established himself in the first team with his impactful performances from the bench.

Attention has quickly turned to Garnacho's contract situation as he has less than 18 months remaining on his deal at Old Trafford and is attracting attention from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. Mirror Football exclusively reported on Saturday that United chiefs had stepped up their efforts to reach an agreement with the youngster's representatives.

It appears as though they have been successful, as ESPN reports Garnacho has agreed in principle to sign a five-year contract extension. The only thing holding up pens being put to paper are a few details relating to his image rights.

Garnacho is set for a bumper pay rise; his current reported weekly salary is in the region of £7,000 and that is set to increase exponentially thanks to his new deal, which recognises his status in Ten Hag's squad. Proving there is a long-term plan in place, the United hierarchy have agreed to progressively increase the teenager's salary as his role continues to become more prominent.

Garnacho has agreed to this, with the financial elements of the deal and the length of the contract - until 2028 - ready to be signed off. The young winger - who has an Argentine mother - was born in Spain and came through the ranks at Atletico. He has represented Spain and Argentina at youth levels and narrowly missed out on a spot in the latter's triumphant World Cup squad in Qatar.

Garnacho made his fourth Premier League start of the season in Sunday's 3-0 victory over Leicester, having come off the bench to score against Leeds in the previous fixture. However, he endured a forgettable outing against the Foxes and was replaced by Jadon Sancho at half-time before the Englishman scored United's third goal of the afternoon.

"Second half, we play like the principles and the rules of the game from us," Ten Hag said as he explained the substitution. "So we transferred the game plan and then you see we are dictating the game.

"And with Jadon on the pitch, there was a lot of space in the midfield area to bring him there to get players playing between the lines, get more dynamics, it worked really well, him and Bruno on that side."
