Marcus Rashford has signed a new long-term contract at Manchester United that will extend his stay at the club until 2028.

Rashford, 25, had entered the final year of his previous deal and has now penned a new five-year agreement worth £400k per week. This represents a significant pay rise on his previous £200k-a-week salary, penned during his last extension in 2019.

The England international rejected lucrative proposals from Premier League rivals and clubs abroad in favour of committing his future to United. He has starred under Erik ten Hag – Rashford’s fifth manager of his Red Devils career – and has become one of Europe’s in-form frontmen.

“I joined Manchester United as a seven-year-old boy with a dream," Rashford has said upon confirmation of the deal. "That same passion, pride, and determination to succeed still drives me every time I have the honour of wearing the shirt.

"I’ve already had some amazing experiences at this incredible club, but there is still a lot more to achieve and I remain relentlessly determined to win more trophies in the years ahead."

Rashford continued: “As a United fan all my life, I know the responsibility that comes with representing this badge and feel the highs and lows as much as anyone. I can assure you that I will give everything to help the team reach the level we are capable of, and I can feel the same determination around the dressing room. I couldn’t be more excited for the future under this manager.”

The forward has spent the entirety of his senior career at United, whom he joined aged seven and, since graduating from their academy, has scored 123 goals in 359 senior appearances – becoming a mainstay of the first-team since his debut in February 2016.

Rashford underlined his importance to United in the 2022-23 campaign as he returned to top form, scoring 30 goals in 56 games across all competitions and four in seven for England. He has primarily played from the left of a three-man attack, although has also stepped in to play the No. 9 role.

A report in The Athletic earlier this week outlined how Rashford had rejected more lucrative proposals away from United to remain at his boyhood club. It is believed that at least one Premier League rival wanted to sign him, while Paris Saint-Germain also held an interest in the forward.

United's Director of Football John Murtough added: “Ever since he joined our Academy 18 years ago, Marcus has epitomised what it takes to succeed as a Manchester United player. He is a brilliant talent but also humble, dedicated and driven. As he enters his prime years, we know there is still so much more to come from him, and we can see the hunger that Marcus feels to achieve the highest levels of success here at Manchester United.

"Working with Erik ten Hag and his coaches is the perfect environment for Marcus to continue to develop into one of the best attacking players in the world.”

Rashford's new contract is a further boost for Ten Hag, who has continually spoken of the forward's importance. "I expect Marcus Rashford to renew," Ten Hag told Viaplay in May. "He wants it. Manchester United wants it. He is a child of this club, so I assume this will happen."

United have already strengthened their squad this summer after attack-minded midfielder Mason Mount completed his move to Old Trafford from Chelsea in a deal worth £55million plus £5m in add-ons. The Red Devils also agreed a short-term contract for former defender Jonny Evans on Tuesday.

Terms have also been agreed to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter while negotiations are ongoing for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund. Ten Hag has overseen the exits of David de Gea, Jack Butland, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe from Old Trafford this summer - with multiple more first-team squad players set for departures in the coming weeks.
