A 12-year-old child has been found dead in a house and police began a search for his mum 4-year-old sibling, issuing an endangered child alert for the youngster.

Shelbyville Police are investigating after a 12-year-old boy was found dead Monday night at his home in Shelbyville, Tenessee.

Police believed his death is connected to the endangered child alert for their 4-year-old sibling, Rafael Sylvester.

Thankfully, the child and his mother were found "safe and well" shortly after the alert was issued, police said.

Now Patricia and Rafael have been found, the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances under which the 12-year-old child lost his life.

Earlier, police asked the public for assistance in the search of the child and the mother, Patricia Sylvester, who was also missing, police said. They said Rafael was 3'3", 40 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.

The mother, Patricia Sylvester, age 32, was 5’4”, 160lbs., with brown eyes and hair. Police suggested Patricia may be travelling in a Dodge Caravan with TN plate 999-BCFM, police said.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation shared a picture of the vehicle urging anyone who sees Patricia or the van, to call Shelbyville PD at (931) 684-5411 or 1-800-TBI-FIND.

The Shelbyville Police Department is still investigating the case claiming the death of the child who was found deceased in his residence on Barksdale Lane is "suspicious".

The kid was found dead by his father on Monday, July 17 at approximately 9:50pm, when the father arrived at the residence and discovered his son unresponsive, police said.

Residents nearby came to the aid of the father and called 911, according to a police statement.

"Investigators desperately need to speak with the boy’s mother and a 4-year-old sibling," the police department said.

According to the police department, an endangered child alert has been issued for 4-year-old Rafael Sylvester. He is 3’3”, 40lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.

There is no picture of the boy to share at this time, they said.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also confirmed in a Facebook post that "Rafael Sylvester, the subject of an Endangered Child Alert, has been found safe in Shelbyville, along with his mother, Patricia."

The bureau thanked the public for cooperating and helping in the search and stressed that the investigation is ongoing following the tragic death of the 12-year-old child.
