A creepy voicemail from a suspected serial killer asking a woman if she knew about the long unsolved Gilgo Beach serial murders has been revealed.

Architect Rex Heuermann has been charged in connection to a number of the notorious murders on Long Island, one of the longest running unsolved serial murder cases.

He was arrested outside his Manhattan office last week and later charged with the help of a discarded pizza box that was thrown into a New York City bin.

Heuermann is accused of murdering three women, who were part of the group deemed the 'Gilgo Four' — the first bodies found in 2010 and linked to the Long Island Serial Killer (LISK).

Targetting sex workers on Craigslist, the murderer was also dubbed the Craigslist Ripper.

Now it has been claimed Long Island resident Heuermann allegedly left a sinister message on a woman's phone earlier this year asking about the killings.

Dominique Vidal had been in a networking group for architects and designers alongside the suspect. She claims Heuermann was in the group up until his arrest on Thursday.

Ms Vidal shared a recording of one voicemail on TikTok. In the message, someone she alleges to be Heuermann can be heard saying: “Hey, this is Rex from the … group.

“I actually heard you are no longer part of the group. I still wanted to talk to you,” Heuermann said, according to Vidal.

“I had a question for you. I also wanted to touch base? So if you get an opportunity, you can always find me at the office or feel free to use my cell,” he said. “Hope you’re doing good. Hope to talk to you soon. Thanks.”

She also recalled a strange chat she had with the suspect at a Manhattan bar after a network group meeting where he apparently asked about the unsolved murders.

Ms Vidal said: “I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course I know,’

"And he goes on to tell me, ‘Yeah, that’s a serial killer that was never caught in m hometown, my neighborhood where I live.’ “

She then joked, “Anybody could be a serial killer,” which Heuermann laughed at.

She told ABC 7 Eyewitness News: "I assumed he just wanted to do some work together, but he always made me a little bit uncomfortable."

Describing another interaction, she added: "He asked me if I knew about the Gilgo Beach murders. And back then I will say 'Oh you know, he's just from the area, maybe you know, he's just a local talking about and would think that I'd find it interesting.' But now I see it as a serial killer."

According to the court documents, investigators spotted Heuermann throw a pizza box away.

They grabbed the leftover pizza crust and had it analysed by forensic experts. Prosecutors say the sample matched a male hair collected off burlap recovered from the body of Megan Waterman.

According to the court papers, the DNA results came back on June 12 with a 99.96 per cent degree of accuracy.

Investigators stated that it “is significant that Defendant Heuermann cannot be excluded from the male hair recovered near the ‘bottom of the burlap’ utilised to restrain and transport Megan Waterman’s naked and deceased body.”

Melilssa Barthelemy, 24, Megan Waterman, 22, and Amber Costello, 27, died at the hands of the architect, court records claim.

Those three were found in 2010 in burlap sacks along a desolate stretch of coastal road. They were found alongside the body of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, with the four dubbed the 'Gilgo Beach Four.' They all worked as sex workers.

Over the next years, the remains of six more people were uncovered, including a toddler, with the deaths tied back to this elusive killer.

Different parts of the other six bodies were found at different times, often years apart.

So far, charges have not been brought against Heuermann for these other bodies despite them often being connected to the same killer.

Over the years, investigators said it is unlikely one person killed all the victims.

In March 2011, the partial remains of 20-year-old Jessica Taylor were found near Gilgo Beach. Other remains of the poor woman had been discovered eight years earlier and 40 miles away in Manorville, New York.

Days later, three more sets of remains were found along Ocean Parkway.

They were identified as 24-year-old Valerie Mack, whose partial remains had also been found in Manorville years earlier. The body of an unidentified toddler was found near Ms Mack.

Police also discovered the skeletal remains of an unidentified Asian person believed to be 17 to 23 years old.

In April 2011, two more sets of partial remains were found. Firstly a woman who is believed to be the mum of the toddler found the week before. Part of her body had been previously discovered in Hempstead Lake State Park in 1997.

The second was the skull of a woman who was linked to remains found on Fire Island in 1996.
