Katie Price has revealed the eye-watering amount of money she has to spend in order to legally drive a car.

The former glamour model, 45, is forking out a whopping five-figure sum for car insurance following multiple driving bans and offences over the years.

Bankrupt Katie, who recently underwent surgery on her nose, is back on the roads once again after having her driving ban lifted following an accident near her Sussex home – where she flipped her vehicle while driving over the drink-drive limit whilst disqualified in 2021.

Speaking on a TikTok live over the weekend, Katie explained how her history of multiple driving offences makes it very hard to get the insurance she needs and accused companies of "discrimination" thanks to the fact she doesn't have "a normal job".

The two-time I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! star is currently paying £14,000 a year to be insured on a car, but only after changing her occupation on an application – admitting to being quoted up to £73,000 before making the tweaks needed to bring the price down.

"No insurance company will insure me on a new car or anything flash, nothing," Katie admitted on Saturday. "So I am just lucky to be on the road in the car I am in, it’s not the car I want to be driving but no one will insure me. I have to wait a year to be able to get a new [car] again."

She continued: "The quotes I had for my insurance on a normal car that is £15k was £73k, one was £53k and one was £33k, and they were my quotes because no one else would insure me because of who I am. It’s discrimination because if someone else had the same as me and they had a normal job, they wouldn’t charge that much, it’s way more than the car."

Explaining how she managed to knock the price down, Katie then revealed: "Then I changed it to author and the insurance is £14k for a year but it’s still not the car I want. I don’t care. I am on the road so it is what it is. I shouldn’t have done what I did, so you have to pay the price. So in a years’ time I will get the car I want and until then I am grateful."

In the early hours of September 28, 2021, Katie flipped her BMW in a single vehicle crash, while still banned from driving. After the incident, Katie confessed on Instagram: "I realise the damage my actions could have caused not only to another family, but to my own as well."

Katie later plead guilty to drink driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance following the crash.

Sentencing the reality TV star in December 2021, District Judge Amanda Kelly told Katie she was lucky she wasn’t going to prison, as she had completed a rehabilitation programme at The Priory, following the crash near her home.

"You deserve to spend Christmas behind bars," Katie was told in court, as she was sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work in the community and a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for a year.

A suspended sentence means that if the defendant does not break the law during that period, and adheres to other conditions, the sentence is usually considered fulfilled. However, if the defendant commits another offence or breaks the law during that time period, a judge can order the sentence to be served in prison, in addition to any sentence for the new offence.

Katie was also banned from driving for two years in December 2021 and went on to complete a drink drive reduction course, reducing the disqualification of 24 months by 24 weeks. The star returned to the roads in April this year but was not ordered to take an extended driving test before getting back behind the wheel.
