Prince Louis was "very upset" to be left at home as the rest of his family enjoyed the Wimbledon final, his mum Kate revealed this afternoon.

The lively five-year-old is deemed too young to be courtside, so remained at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. The Princess of Wales admitted Louis was not at all happy when he found out he wasn't going.

Prince Louis has previously been snapped making cheeky expressions at major royal events such as the Platinum Jubilee, and because watching tennis at Wimbledon is a calmer affair - he is sitting this one out.

Siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte waved to the crowds alongside Prince William and Kate.

The children all smiled as they took their seats in the Royal Box to see if Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz can finally end Novak Djokovic 's record-breaking Wimbledon run.

Ahead of the match, the youngsters were both handed goodie bags when they were greeted following their arrival at SW19.

This is excited Princess Charlotte's first visit to the iconic tournament, with George visiting last year. Wearing a flowing blue dress, she held the Princess of Wales' hand and walked ahead of George and her father to reach the Players' Lawn and greet staff and police dog Stella.

Kate spoke of her kid's excitement about coming to Wimbledon but also shared how Prince Louis wasn't pleased to be left at home.

Speaking to Ella Ottaway, Children, Young People and Families Coordinator at Wimbledon, Kate said: “It’s Charlotte’s first time, George came last year.

“They’ve been eagerly watching. Charlotte you’ve been getting to grips with the scoring, haven’t you? Louis was very upset he wasn’t coming today.”

The family met staff on Centre Court as Kate wowed in fitting green dress green designed by Roland Mouret.

The Princess of Wales, the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, returns for a second time this weekend after consoling Tunisia's Ons Jabeur on court after defeat to Markéta Vondroušová.

The 41-year-old has been a regular this summer and had a rain-hit visit on the tournament's second day when she took shelter under an umbrella as she was watching British number one Katie Boulter.

Every year Kate hands out the tennis trophies to the champions at Wimbledon and is expected to do the same this afternoon.

She may need to comfort the defeated finalist again after today's showdown. Champion Djokovic is going for an eighth Wimbledon title and 24th Grand Slam - and both would be record-equalling feats.

Yesterday, OnsJabeur was consoled by Princess Kate after her latest defeat and has promised to "come back one day and win this tournament" in pursuit of a maiden Grand Slam title.

The world No.6 also lost last year's US Open final to Polish star Iga Swiatek.

Jabeur was asked by reporters what Princess Kate said to her after Saturday's final. The two-time runner-up at SW19 replied: "Same thing after last year: to encourage me to be strong, to come back and win a Grand Slam, win a Wimbledon."
