Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will "win many awards" thanks to their bombshell Netflix docuseries, but it won't "benefit them in the long term", according to experts.

The couple's show went down a storm with viewers and quickly became the streaming giant's most-watched documentary. Across the six episodes, Harry detailed the tense relationship with his brother, Prince William, and took aim at his father, King Charles.

While Meghan and Harry missed out on an Emmy Award nomination for the show, they were nominated for another big award.

Their explosive series, titled Harry & Meghan, was nominated by Hollywood Critics Awards in the Best Streaming Nonfiction category.

Royal commentator Kate Mansey said it's unsurprising that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are up for an award.

"Everyone watched it and tuned in to see it. It was this huge TV highlight. I'm not surprised it's been nominated for an award. I suspect it'll win many awards because it was so popular.

"But you do wonder, despite all that success on paper, whether it's done them any good in the long run," she said.

Speaking on the Daily Mail's Palace Confidential, she said only "time will tell" if the series has done their reputation "any good".

Royal expert Richard Eden disagreed and said it "did so much damage to everything", including their reputation.

"Yes it was an interesting programme that everyone watched, but I can't see how it's benefitted them in the long term at all," he added.

Despite the criticism, Meghan and Harry's documentary broke streaming records as it became the biggest Netflix documentary debut, with a total 81.6 million hours watched on its first four days of release.

The pair signed their lucrative deal with Netflix after stepping back from the Royal Family in 2020. It is unknown exactly how much the deal is worth but it has been reported it could be worth $112million (£88,000).

The streaming giant has heaped praise on Harry and Meghan, with a spokesperson saying: "The bond with Archewell Productions is one we deeply value."

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, they added: "Harry & Meghan launched as Netflix's most spectacular documentary debut to date. Our exciting journey with them isn't ending anytime soon.

"We're currently collaborating on numerous projects, including the much-anticipated documentary series Heart of Invictus."
