The BBC has faced criticism from fans on social media for their coverage of Saturday's women's singles final at Wimbledon.

Marketa Vondrousova won her maiden Grand Slam title by beating Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4. It's the first time an unseeded player has won the women's singles title at Wimbledon in the Open era, as the Czech was ranked No.48 in the world heading into the tournament.

Jabeur, meanwhile, has now lost back-to-back women's singles finals at Wimbledon and was consoled by the Princess of Wales on Saturday. The 28-year-old Tunisian, who also lost last year's US Open final, suffered a defeat to Elena Rybakina at SW19 in 2022.

Some fans believe the BBC were "biased" towards Jabeur during Saturday's final and have taken to social media to voice their opinion. Many of those viewers have also criticised the crowd on Centre Court for their reaction to Vondrousova's triumph.

"How biased to Jabeur is this BBC commentary," tweeted one fan, while another said: "Once again the BBC are fawning over Jabeur, with virtually no mention of her opponent."

One fan claimed on social media: "BBC1 going out of their way to point out all of the bad times Ons has been through this year! Classic BBC Sport, always having a clear favourite."

Another fan even tweeted during the final: "Jabeur... the BBC [are] making out she is the only player at the tournament and she deserves to win. They are being disrespectful to the other finalist Marketa Vondrousova, so I will be supporting her to win."

That viewer got their wish, as Vondrousova produced a superb display to win Wimbledon. It completes a remarkable comeback for the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, who missed three Grand Slams last year - including Wimbledon - after undergoing wrist surgery.

Speaking on Centre Court after he victory, Vondrousova said: "I don’t know what is happening, it is an amazing feeling. Ons congratulations, you are such an inspiration for us. I hope you win some day, you are an amazing person.

What did you make of the BBC's commentary on Saturday? Let us know in the comments below!

"After everything I have been through it is amazing I can stand here and hold this. Tennis is crazy! The comebacks aren’t easy you don’t know what to expect, I was hoping I could get back to this level and now this is happening.

"Thank you to my box, my little sister she is crying! I mean it is amazing, tomorrow is our first wedding anniversary. It’s great to have you guys here, I enjoyed the two weeks so much. I am so grateful and proud of myself.

"I made a bet with my coach, if I won a Grand Slam he was going to get a tattoo too - I think we are going to go tomorrow! I think I am going to have some beer, it was an exhausting few weeks. Thank you guys for the support!"
