A concerned brother fears his sister's child could soon become the target of playground bullies if the expectant mum doesn't reconsider the festive name she likes.

The excited parent is due to welcome her baby near Christmas, according to her stunned brother. But her sibling doesn't think the mum should draw on festive spirit when she names her new arrival.

"She and her husband are considering the name Noel for the baby. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with this, as it's a family name on his side, but the fact that they're considering Noel for a baby born around Christmas is way too on the nose," explained the baby's uncle.

He added: "Reason I am concerned is I myself am a Christmas baby, and got a lot of flack from other kids growing up about my name. And my name has nothing to do with Christmas or anything that could be construed as being Christmassy. But I'm very much concerned that them doing that would just be unleashing a perfect storm of bullying fodder on the poor kid."

The brother said he is also regularly questioned about his festive birthday. "I still get asked all the time if I get screwed over by the family because of the Christmas/birthday thing, which is honestly no one's business, but add on top of that a thematic name? I mean, the phrase 'children are monsters" is widespread for a reason," he wrote.

However, his mum told him to keep his feelings to himself. As such, he was keen to ask Reddit users if he should follow her advice. "My mother has told me to keep my mouth shut about it, saying it's none of my business. And so far I haven't said anything. But I am very much concerned, as someone who got it from both ends growing up what she might be setting her child up for," his post concluded.

As it turned out, most commenters agreed with his mum. One person replied: "I don't necessarily think you're wrong in your thinking - but wrong or not it's really not for you to do anything about. You can voice your concerns to your sister but ultimately what they name their child is none of your business. At least Noel is a pretty name. There are a lot worse 'Christmas-themed' names they could have picked.

A second said: "It's not your position to worry about that even though you're the aunt. It's still their baby and if they like the name they're totally free to name that baby Noel. I think it's adorable."
