This Morning's Dermot O'Leary apologises as viewers spot highly offensive word

Dermot O'Leary was forced to apologise to viewers of This Morning on Friday after a highly offensive word was accidentally aired on yesterday's episode.

A man wearing a black hat emblazoned with the c-word in white font appeared on screen during a pre-recorded segment about campervan owners, much to the shock of the ITV breakfast show's fans. The vulgar term was not censored out, prompting eagle-eyed folks at home to alert producers online.

The man in question, who was also wearing sunglasses and an earring, was being interviewed by Josie Gibson at Bristol Volks Fest, when the offensive term, which featured on his bucket cap was broadcast. The casual chat was part of a competition giveaway of a campervan.

Stunned viewers took to Twitter to share their reactions to the rude discovery, with one user joking: "Loving the hat!"

Meanwhile, another person wrote, "For everyone who missed the bad language featured in the competition VTs throughout the past week. What a fabulous hat!!"

In the following episode, host Dermot O'Leary issued an apology to viewers after the gaffe.

On Friday, O'Leary took a brief pause from regular business to say sorry for the broadcast of the unedited hat.

"We'd like to apologise for any offensive language you might have seen in the competitions earlier this week," the 50-year-old said. His co-host, Alison Hammond, sat beside him with a serious facial expression as he issued the statement.

This isn't the first time that rude words have slipped out on This Morning.

In June, Josie Gibson dropped the F-bomb on camera while taking a 'terrifying' rollercoaster on the Isle of Wight. Just a few months prior to this, US actress Jennifer Aniston used the phrase 's**ts and giggles' during an interview alongside Adam Sandler on the daytime show. She quickly realised her mistake, however, covering her mouth and immediately apologising.

"I'm sure you can bleep that," she said, prompting former host Phillip Schofield to reply, "No, it's live, but we love it, it's fine."

In the same month, Eamonn Holmes accidentally cursed on GB News' breakfast show. The Northern Irish presenter was filmed wondering how the 'f**k' he was going to get home, seemingly unaware that the cameras were rolling and his microphone was on at the time. Once he realised he had an audience, he quickly regained his composure and returned to discussing the topic of climate change. His GB news co-host, Isabel Webster, also let slip a swear word in the same conversation, saying "I'm a b***h. If only they knew."
