Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have left their audience far from impressed after "airing their dirty laundry", according to a PR expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex missed out on receiving an Emmy Award nomination for their bombshell Netflix docuseries, with their plan to focus on the Royal Family "backfiring".

In the dramatic show, Harry claimed his brother Prince William screamed and shouted at him during the Sandringham summit and alleged members of Kensington Palace then "lied to protect my brother".

He also also claimed his wife wasn't "protected" by the Royal Family and said they were told not to say anything when stories were printed about them.

PR expert Kieran Elsby has told The Mirror Harry and Meghan's decision to focus on Royal Family drama has "injured" their careers.

"Like the majority of the general public Emmy voters were not impressed. It is a clear result of the couple's strategy of airing their dirty laundry about the Royal Family backfiring.

"The Royal Family drama has critically injured Harry and Meghan's careers," he told us.

Kieran, director of Media PR Global, suggested the Sussexes might find it difficult to "get the kind of projects they were hoping for". He said this makes it difficult to see what their next move will be, but did offer some suggestions for the couple.

"They should pivot away from the Royal Family drama," he said. "It was always a bad move that has pinned them into a corner."

Kieran added: "In the UK and USA we are fiercely loyal to our families, and it is hard to get people on side for airing grievances so publicly.

"It is possible that Meghan and Harry's American audience will eventually jump back on their side. However, it will take more than time and effort to rebuild their reputation."

He said it would "short-sighted" of Meghan and Harry to revert back to focusing on their time in the Royal Family and suggested they should find a different focus £to keep the income flowing".
